about seventy from friends and/or ongoing campaigns. between cons and pbp, there's an effectively unknown amount on top of that, so I answered 150-200

I've been involved with rpgs since about 1977-78 and played in such diverse places as a tent in mom's backyard, a neighbor's house where an rpg package was misdelivered, Lone Star Geyser in Yellowstone Park, a night train to Prague, and at Sarajevo Airport during a four year military siege. But the number of people I've gamed with almost certainly doesn't number 40 different folks. The last time I played with people I didn't previously know was 1999, and it was undoubtedly the worst gaming experience of all those years. Since then, almost all game play has been with some demographic of about a dozen folk with an ocassional guest brought along; what we lack in sheer numbers we make up for in multinational cultures.

Being friends outside the game has been integral for us.

Hard to keep track of, but with all the cons, running D&D club at school, and moving quite a bit, definitely above 150. Another good question might be how many serious campaigns (6+ months) with different groups have you been a part of?

I'm well past 300 once you start adding in conventions, LARPs, and mega games.

Every circle of friends that I've ever had outside of my current occupation has branched into at least one RPG group. I stood at about 30-40 people between 6 groups before I went to college. At college, I ran the university gaming club and that number tripled within a year. Things have slowed down for me, but over the last decade or so I've added a handful of different board game and one shot RPG groups each with their own cast of characters.

Since the pandemic hit, I started an online West Marches campaign that originally melded a group of my old college buddies with a couple of people from my book club gaming group, and over the last year that group has been pretty much taken over by about a dozen of the original group's friends, students, and coworkers who I've never met in real life.

Probably about 100, but I went with "90-99" because I feel like the answer is probably a lot closer to 90 than to 150 if I'm choosing between ranges that include those numbers. I haven't kept an exact count and it would be a hopeless endeavour to try to create one now.

I'm in the 50-59 range. Only played once at a convention. Most of my groups were 4-5 players. Others had only 2-3 players.
