Wizard Spell Selection Help

Okay, my new DM is setting up a Dragonstar campaign in about a week. We already rolled up our characters (a wizard in my case) and now I need some advice from my fellow gamers on this board whom I trust so much. ;)

He's a 14th level wizard with the following number of spells in his Spellbook software;

1st 16
2nd 12
3rd 12
4th 12
5th 10
6th 8
7th 6

Any suggestions on what spells to select would be much appreciated, as it's been a while since I played a magic-using PC. I am allowed free access to the PHB, Spacefarer's Handbook and T&B. FR spells are allowed, subject to DM approval. He has the following feats;

Spellcasting Prodigy
Quicken Spell
Energy Substitution, Sonic
Extend Spell
Spell Mastery
Spell Focus, Evocation
G. Spell Focus, Evocation
Spell Penetration

Hmmm, I don't really have any suggestions, but I do have a question about one of your feats.

Is Energy Substitution, Sonic really the best choice for a science fiction campaign? I'm not all that familiar with DragonStar, but would a sonic effect work in a Vacum?
 

I would think so. The Spacefarer's Guide (currently the only book out for Dragonstar) doesn't have much info on combat in a vacuum (space) but it didn't make any special mention of sonic effects not working in space.
 

Dragon star spell selection

First Sonic based spells don't work in a vacum. That I belive is stated in the magic chapter where it talks about PHB spells in Dragon Star. On the other hand most of the other spells will so sonic subitiution is a good feat. In any ship or on a planet it will work just like normal and many people will have the some type of protection from the more comon element types.

If you have a soulmech in your party then the Repair Spells are a must have. Other wise they are just very good spells to have. Also get fill (A second level spell that refills any type of storage item from spaceship fuel tanks to energy cells).

Other wise use your experence running a wizard for most of the other spells with the understanding you are going to be more of a support then offenive member of the party. After all that Orc grunt can dish out as much damage as most of your direct damage spells. If you need more details let us know.
