Given Wizards' history of layoffs, I'd be very hesitant about uprooting my life in order to apply for a job there – particularly on the D&D side (MtG seems to offer more stability). If you're already in that general area it's probably a great job, but I wouldn't leave a current job for it, or friends & family. This sounds like my dream job. Too bad I don't have the necessary experience... and live on the other corner of the country.
Yeah, that too.Given Wizards' history of layoffs, I'd be very hesitant about uprooting my life in order to apply for a job there – particularly on the D&D side (MtG seems to offer more stability). It sounds like "future-proofing" to me. Not only compile a one shop lore resource, but to make it so that it can be amended as needed (to facilitate the innovation of others) and try and anticipate social or political issues that might arise. The last is the best: "forward-thinking perspectives." Is that not the same thing as "innovation?"
Or how deep your roots are. I moved around a fair bit and had several jobs, virtually living out of a suitcase for a period of my life.Given Wizards' history of layoffs, I'd be very hesitant about uprooting my life in order to apply for a job there – particularly on the D&D side (MtG seems to offer more stability). Given that this sounds like what Perkins was doing before retirement, and that Crawford and Perkins have talked about how they had succession of their duties already lined up...WotC probably has an internal hire in mind for promotion here, similar to how Armin took over Crawford's role.Depends on what you are looking for in the job.
If you are wanting in the industry and don't really have a foot in it, this is a great way to get a dream job working in the industry while making new connections that you could network later if the worst happens and enabling you with more knowledge and power to continue on in the industry if you ever should leave the WotC family.
If they have an internal hire in mind why are they making an open call? Is there some kind of legal requirement?Given that this sounds like what Perkins was doing before retirement, and that Crawford and Perkins have talked about how they had succession of their duties already lined up...WotC probably has an internal hire in mind for promotion here, similar to how Armin took over Crawford's role.
It often is.If they have an internal hire in mind why are they making an open call? Is there some kind of legal requirement?
Yes, in the U.S. it is required to release open applications for any position like this...and even if they have someone in mind, theoretically someone astoundingly well qualified could come along and wow the hiring manager. If they have an internal hire in mind why are they making an open call?
