D&D 5E (2024) Wizards of the Coast promises to release more “CRPGs that are going to be as serious as BG3” without Larian

That was a long time ago. WOTC is different now, with top notch programmers. Look how well they did with Sigil!

Sigil was a half-formed idea looking for a reason to exist. Any game is vaporware until released of course, I just don't think past performance has much bearing in software development. Some companies that once produced amazing games produce crap, other companies I've never heard of come up with some pretty good stuff.

WotC may (or may not) do better than people here think.

They haven't announced most of the ideas they probably are looking at or working on (or at least proposed).

However, they have announced at least one game I think people here noticed.

Exodus.

Do you really think it looks bad already (I thought it was looking pretty great from what has been shown thus far)?

Exodus looks pretty cool. What lore I've seen is interesting and the idea that humans are the aliens (sort of) is interesting as is the time dilation issue. We'll see, there have been other video games that looked like a lot of fun that fell flat but I'm cautiously optimistic.

Right, which turns off both investors and potential customers. Uncertainty is anathema to investment.

I've said nothing about investment and don't care. I doubt many potential customers even have any of these games on their radar except perhaps for Exodus. I have no idea if any of the games will be good or not, I think Exodus looks interesting but that's it.

So you don't care if a game company doesn't have a reasonable chance of success before you spend money? Interesting.

Why would I? Plenty of games have been produced by companies that have made a ton of money in the past that I never purchased. Other times companies have come out of nowhere to produce games I really enjoy.

I hope they produce good games because it would likely be in a genre I enjoy. But I have no horse in this race, no financial interest one way or another, I have no idea if they're going to produce good games or not.
