Wizards with Cure spells!

Ok, so here's the deal. I seem to remember (can't find this in writing right now) that a Wizard can scribe a spell from a scroll into his spellbook, which effectively uses up the scroll. Since there are arcane scrolls of the Cure spells (thank you Bards!), could a Wizard add that to his spellbook since it's an arcane spell? Yes, I realize that the cure spells aren't on the Wiz spell list, but it seems like sort of a grey area when the spell is cast from an arcane source instead of divine.

Muzik,

No because while it's arcane for bards, it's still only FOR bards. Wizards can't cast bard spells any more than rangers can cast druid spells.

Nightfall's got the measure of it, by RAW. Your hypothetical wizard may be able to do spell research to "discover" an arcane cure x wounds spell, but you'd really want to discuss it with a DM.

If you are the DM, you'll need to weigh up the pros and cons of allowing such a thing. Regardless, Clerics (and healers) will still be the best users of positive energy (due to spontaneous casting), even if wizards can learn cures.

How much the role-bleeding matters is up to you.

YAY! For once in a month I'm RIGHT!! :D Sooo happy!!

Thanks Sound! :D

Another way to have wizards cast cure type spells is to convert existing arcane spells into positive energy instead.

Don't let it happen again. You might set a precedent! :D ;)

I think there was a spell or feat in the Forgotten Realms that does that, but I'm not sure. Had something to do with the Simbul, I believe. There may also be something more recent.

Sound,

I'll try not to.

Actually I believe there's two. One is in FR, and I believe it's now in the Spell Compendium. The other is from my good ole Scarred Lands, Hollowfaust book. I forget the name but it's nearly the same level as the Simbul's.

Arcane Disciple from Complete Divine allows an arcanist to gain the ability to cast a limited number of spells per day from a domain... if the arcanist worships a deity with the healing domain, that is an avenue to have at least a few cures per day.

Korak,

True but there's two spells that do the same AND don't burn a hole in the limited feat selection for wizards.

Plane,

Huh! Hadn't thought of that one. Yeah that would be another way to get some curing power without wasting feats too.
