Inspired by the thread of what world ideas we think are lame, which ones do you all think are cool/good/or unique that hasn't been printed yet?

Nightfall, as always, makes me laugh :)

What do I like? In a D&D world, where gods walk the earth (or once did), I want to see a history that includes the various machinations of the gods themselves. But the history ought to also show that countless people have lived and died with their own goals and ambitions. When those two factors are in alignment, then the world can really come alive.

Unintentional I assure. Well not entirely but still. The Sage in me has been taking a beating...and lifestyle changes are forthcoming for me. But I blather on. My favorite world still remains the one I'm working closely with as a consulat/Sage.

The key to a world setting for me is plot hooks. Does the background of the world create adventures by its nature? If I have to create the reasons for adventure I am less interested in purchasing your world to exercise my imagination in...

I think some OGL world based on Talislanta would be cool (I don't say d20 because Talislanta is based on a d20 system, though completely different from D&D-d20 ;)). I would not be too keen on seeing all those races where I have a hard time even remembering their names, but to see some of them, the wonderful cultures and monsters in another world together with some more approachable stereotypes (don't beat me :D!) would be nice :).

Being the lazy sort that I am, I like worlds that are well supported. That is, they have lots of published sourcebooks and adventures. Especially adventures. I feel that Kalamar is strong in this department.

I also like worlds where that have really developed deities and various unique areas or regions to explore. And lots of conflict and flavor. I believe Scarred Lands fits this bill (although I haven't had a chance to read much of SL, I'll remedy that soon).

Of course, any world that provides cool looking wall maps I like too. I'm a sucker for maps.

These elements may be out there, but I haven't read/played them yet:

- Effective use of technology (yes, that includes gunpowder). While I've heard good things about Iron Kingdoms, but I haven't tried it. Steamtech is fine, but I really don;t care what the underlying premise is---so long as it's interesting and fun to play. It would be refreshing to find a D&D setting that broke out of the 'fantasy luddite' box..

- Unique PC races that don't look like they've been ripped from the LotR Appendices. For example, I liked AU's Giant race (but that's about it), and I'm really looking forward to Eberron's Warforged.

- A mythology that is consistent and plausible. Not 'realistic', but which makes sense in a cultural/anthropolgical sense. I'm sick of seeing dozens of gods with disparate portfolios that seem to fit no other purpose than gaming. Game Designers: please read The Golden Bough (at the very least) before you start writing your meaningless pastiche pantheon.

- Imaginative implementation of extraplanar cosmology. Feel free to ditch the Great Wheel and dump all the demons and devils. We've seen all that before.

Empires & Intrigues, Wars & Assassinations, and above all a society that makes sense based on the magic and/or technology available.

Originality matters less than verisimilitude.
