World's Largest City (see your name in lights)

I see their nefarious evil plan now. I, the hapless gamer, submit my building/locale. And should it be accepted, of course I will purchase the massive tome. Never mind the cost that made me balk for the WLD! This one was partially my doing!! :]

*serious tongue in cheek for this*. Very cool on the submissions deal, Jim. I've always liked it when companies look to our communities for input and submissions.

Well. Its not like I'm any smarter about making a cool baker than you are. And frankly everyone has at least ONE good idea.

Except for the guy who sent me the harp-maker ... kidding.

On a side note, we're not looking for mundane. We want butchers and candlestick makers, but we want them to be interesting. Something that makes me go in and buy a slab of meat from them. I can make up a mundane one without any outside assistance.

The blacksmith that smuggles gems out the back of his business through the coal sluice chute is much more interesting than the bouncer who is also an assassin. Any character in the city can be an assassin if the DM wants. We need people that are part of the day to day operation of the city. People who facilitate the things that go on behind the scenes.

Bob delivers potatoes every morning to the Rising Sun Tavern. Every morning he picks the biggest ones and sells them to Bertha, whom he fancies. Bob intends to someday bring a ring and flowers, but at the moment is too shy to bring himself to tell her how he feels. In the meantime, the Rising Sun Tavern has the best baked potatoes in the city and at 2 cp each, they keep farmers and dock workers full for hours.

Recently, Bob fell ill and his brother started delivering potatoes. The selection at the Rising Sun dropped for 2 months and now business for Bertha has slowed to a pace where two of her servers were let go. Its unclear what Bob is sick from, but he's been unable to do his job and this has had effects on the community. Yadda. Yadda.

This was off the top of my head. So I'm sure we could change it to best vodka (from potatoes and grains) in the city, because Bob corks the best barrels for Bertha. Or whatever.

Anyway. Over the top is good. Better than average is good. Mundane is not.

This could be turned into a low level adventure where the PCs search for a cure to Bob's illness.

And your ideas should be shorter than this too.

:)

Jim leaving? Ah man, he'd been there since the Shadis days! I remember him telling me to make my reviewers shorter so that they could put the cover image in the review.

Man o man... I was really looking forward to the WLC too... Hopefully it still comes out as originally intended.

We had to take a break from the current WLD group (yes, they were only in region A) because they were getting cramped... We'll get back to it this summer, however.

Well, at least that (hopefully) means the project is still a go.

I wonder what ever happened to the Accordlands books...
