Worst DM Quotes at Gencon

At GC one of our DM's for a Swashbuckling Adventures game would fall asleep in mid sentence. I don't know if he was actually falling asleep but he would pause ....his eyes would slowly close....his head would fall down slowly to his chest and he would sit there for like 30 seconds or more. Then he would blink and awaken and continue his sentence. We were all just staring at him.

I didn't know if it was just because of a late night bender or narcilepsy so I didn't say anything.

Well, it is a myth. If the projectiles had enough force to knock the target ten feet backwards, Newton's laws would mean that the gun would knock you ten feet backwards every time you fired it.

Ten feet backwards, no -- but knocked off one's feet seems pretty reasonable. I'm not an expert, but there's an awful lot of force behind a cluster of shot, particularly the bigger stuff (like 00 buck).

I've never had a truly bad game at a Con, at least not one I've paid for or was lucky enough to slip into. Then again it's possible I blocked anything crummy out.

That's not to say I've wondered on a least one occasion why I was sticking around. If I can get into a game with a buddy of mine, thats awesome, but when the buddy then abandons the ship, that irks me.

Seriously though, I'd say the good DM's outnumber the bad ones something like 4 to 1, so the chances are the majority of your games will be pretty good.

Man what Gencon did you go to, I want to go there! In my experience it was just the opposite. Although this year was better than last year. I still shudder when I think of last years games.

Only one, back in 1994, and every game I played at that one had a great GM. Kriskrafts and I did most of the New England based cons during the 1990's, and it is that experience which is where I based the 4 to 1 ratio on.

We haven't been active in the con circuit during the past four years (we had always been able to find weekend babysitting when we had 1 or 2 children, but when we had our 3rd that suddenly became close to impossible). I'm sorry to hear that both you and Telfon Billy feel that the GM quality has deteriorated so much in recent years. Hopefully that will reverse soon.
