D&D General WotC hiring a Principal AI Engineer

People don’t care about switchboard operators because the profession largely ended over 50 years ago but there are a whole slew of other jobs that aren’t dying as rapidly but are still in their death throes and people care very, very much about those - enough to vote for political parties willing to entertain them.
They cared at the time.

My point is just that technology changes labor. This isn't new. People that don't think we should develop AI because low level customer service reps will get phased out are throwing the baby out with the bathwater is all.

I know that this is going to come off as a political comment, and I don't think it should be (or at least not partisan) but... If we looked out for people in need, it wouldn't matter if AI stole their jobs. Who wants a job anyway? (What people need is not a job - it's a purpose.)

And my point is that being dismissive of the pain when there's a technology shift that causes changes in the labor force doesn't win points on some scoreboard somewhere.

Universal Basic Income is definitely something that should be discussed more seriously.

I love this community. This issue is being met with the proper amount of rationality here. On TTRPG Twitter theres nothing but Chickens running around clucking like the world is going to end.

People’s livelihoods, and the ability in general to make a living by making art, matters right now and in the long run.
This has been the case since the Industrial Revolution. Since we're living through this one it just seems MORE Scary. This is exactly how Manufacturing labor felt last century.

My supermarket took out three more cashier stations for self checkout. It's been happening for a long time. That's why I tell my students, they still can't automate Plumbers and Carpenters for homeowners. That may be their problem Next century.
