That seems very very low for a teacher. Bottom end of starting salary outside London.

Pay should always be better for teachers. I’d give you footballer wages if I could. But that example seems extremely low.
Yeah, I mostly do supply, so I get a very basic salary, with the agency creaming off the top. It's pretty much the only way to avoid a management position, which is highly recommended for everyone, since I can't organise my way out of a paper bag. I get enough though, if you gave me a footballer's salary I wouldn't know what to spend it on (I think footballers have that problem, buying stupid things and plastic partners they don't need). But my point is I choose to not earn a high wage. My dad was an accountant and spent most of his life bored and miserable. I may not get paid well, but at least what I do is interesting and useful.

But I am aware we are very off topic.

Time are a'changin'. Lots of groups are unionizing, demanding raises, and forcing some changes in how things get run.
Tell that to the Kellogs and Starbucks employees that unionized and now are either laid off or making less money than they were before. Tell that to the John Deere employees that were deemed mission essential and prevented from striking during early COVID but are now having their jobs shipped to South America and China.

Teachers here complain they're underpaid and they may be. But they're generally in the top 30% of wage earners.
Compared to people that are uneducated and including high school students in the sample.

Teachers make crap in wages, but then try to get an job teaching elementary education anywhere outside of a high crime part of a city. We have PLENTY of people lining up to be teachers in the suburbs, rural areas and non-violent urban areas. The only shortages are in math and science teachers and teachers in awful schools.

The reason why is people WANT to be teachers.

Here in California there's a teacher shortage everywhere. Part of the reason is that teachers did not want to retire during the recession, so post-recession there's been a huge amount of retirements.

When I applied to be a teacher 10 years ago, I sent out 30 applications and didn't get a single interview.

These days I see schools in heavy need of teachers.

These things just happen in cycles.

Nope they get paid reasonably well but they live in a bubble thinking they're low paid.

I found this link.

Median wage. Average wage is higher but around 70% don't get the average wage.

Average teacher is well inside the top 30% the ones with a few years service are approaching the top 20% iirc.

Graduate teachers aren't paid that great but it's close to the median wage so it's similar to everyone else and better than a lot.

Shortage of STEM teachers iirc.

Lol, thanks. I doubt they'd tolerate the type of diversity (political/social class) I'd bring to the table.

Man of the right? There are a few OSR publishers who might be interested. But when you're flapping that right wing, just don't kick too high, if you get my drift.
