WOTC: Mistress of Pain submissons, who's trying?

I'm going to have to try. I doubt I'll get in, but writing is something I've been doing for so long that if I don't submit I'll never forgive myself.

Dude, sure, why not? I've got short story publications, a novel sitting on an agent's desk, and a novel sitting in an open Word file that I really ought to be editing right now, and I could have fun giving this a shot. If nothing else, WotC benefits by having people buy the FRCS to brush up on their knowledge of the area.

And I for one am glad that they're having people avoid the stuff they regularly do. I don't want to write a bad knockoff of an R.A. Salvatore novel. I want to write a good Takyris novel. :D

Ah yes, it's all coming back to me. A pretty entrancing picture, as I recall.

As a side note (HIJACK!), has anybody else heard that the Finnish "mythology" -- their big Kalevala saga that is supposedly the traditional stories of Finn culture -- was actually just made up out of whole cloth by some guy like a hundred years ago? And when this was found out, the whole country just kind of shrugged and said, "That's okay. We like the stories, so we'll just pretend it's our traditional mythology. Yay us!"?

Does anyone know if that's true?

The Kalevala is less corrupted than Beowulf, let's put it that way. It is very easy to see where Lonnrot meddled with the original stories because he was such a horrible poet. His meter and language show scarcely any resemblance to the rest of the material, so it doesn't pose much of a problem for scholarsl.

Cool story Barsoomcore!

Heck, I might give this a go. It'll be hard not making this a R-rated book with a title like "Maiden of Pain", lol.

Well, never hurts to try. Yeah I think I will do this.
