WotC -- Worst Excerpt EVAR!

All right, your cheesy silliness of legacy has tempted me. I'll give it a try.

Arbiter of Wyrms of Legacy . . .

Sorry, not really feeling it. Too clunky.

How about Arbiter of Legacy. . .

No. Now it sounds like I'm supposed to arbitrate legacies, and that just doesn't make sense.

Oh! Wait! I know. I'll of Legacy just of Legacy type of Legacy "of Legacy" of Legacy after of Legacy every of Legacy word of Legacy I of Legacy type of Legacy!

COOL of Legacy! It of Legacy works of Legacy!

[/of Legacy] Maybe I've just been desensetized to grandeur through over-exposure. . .

of Legacy! :D

BEHOLD: the CHERUB of LEGACY!!!!!
Ohm. . .

Wasn't there already an "X of Legacy" or "Legendary X" or "X of Legend" template somewhere?

For some reason, I thought it was Savage Species, but I just checked and I don't see it. I know its a WotC source and I know that the example creature was based on a minataur, but can't, for the life of me, remember which book it was in.

hang on a darn confounding second!!! maybe just maybe...the mind-flayer is an intelligent short-spear in disguise with an Epic Ego of 35....its either that or the brainiacs at WOTC are shining in their full and colourful glory by this display of sheer marketing and promotion brilliance!!

I'm with the majority.... that excerpt is not going to tempt me to part with any of my hard earned money.

That being said, if people are interested in this type of thing I would encourage you to check out the Game Mechanics. They have an entire series called Artifacts of the Ages. They even have some good (and on topic) excepts.

it was "of Legend" and I believe it was MM II

*blink blink of Legacy*

One reaction:

Jesus Christ (of Legacy) that's a poor selection of material to represent the book with.

When I'm looking forward to a book you're not supposed to release material that's seemingly irrelevant to the book's contents (of Legacy) and rather than making me more enthused it just makes me confused.

I don't usually dogpile on WotC, because I think they do really well more often than they're given credit for on the internet, but that excerpt sucked big time. I was actually really interested in Weapons of Legacy, and still am, but the excerpt told me almost nothing about the book. Was there an excerpt I may have missed that gave an example of an actual weapon? I'd like to see it.

Here is the previous excerpt: Desert Wind, detailing a specific weapon. Plus there is a third excerpt near the bottom of the the June preview, from chapter 1, explaining all about the term "legacy". Since the main excerpt already explains the focus of the book and gives a thoroughly detailed example in "Desert Wind", this new tidbit is merely a bit of icing on the cake, to reveal a hidden aspect of the book.

I think the marketing is smart. This trumps any detractors who would seek to claim that the book is nothing but a 224 page list of weapons, and thus be worthless for any other use. WOTC wanted to show that the book has more to offer, even containing a few monsters and perhaps other useful surprises for DMs and players. Before seeing this, was anybody expecting to get new monster info in the book? Maybe there are new traps, hazards, or other DM goodies in the book? Maybe there are some new treats for players too, like feats, PrCs, & spells? The wider the appeal, the better the sales.
