WotC -- Worst Excerpt EVAR!

I think the marketing is smart. This trumps any detractors who would seek to claim that the book is nothing but a 224 page list of weapons, and thus be worthless for any other use. WOTC wanted to show that the book has more to offer, even containing a few monsters and perhaps other useful surprises for DMs and players. Before seeing this, was anybody expecting to get new monster info in the book? Maybe there are new traps, hazards, or other DM goodies in the book? Maybe there are some new treats for players too, like feats, PrCs, & spells? The wider the appeal, the better the sales.
It would be smart as part of a package of excerpts. As the only currently available excerpt (and asking people to go back through the increasingly useless Previews for a nugget isn't realistic), it's inane.

it was "of Legend" and I believe it was MM II

Yes. "Monster of Legend" to be precise.

So a creature can do some noteworthy things, make a name for itself, and gain a few powers...
Sort of like going up a level.
Whatever.

I think the idea was to tie the preview in with their creature competition so interest in one would generate interest in the other. Not a bad goal, though material choice was questionable. A kobold of legacy with a weapon of legacy... now that has potential.

I've now got the stats for a Mind Flayer in electronic form. Sssshhh!

(loud) Hey, WotC, don't listen to them! The excerpt is great! Now I want to see a Beholder of Legacy!

Thanks, -- N
Okay, point the excerpt does have a redeeming feature.

You know all this talking of adding "of legacy" to any thing they can think of, isn't impressing me much. I will not bow down to WoTC and add "of legacy" to anything in my campaign.

Perhaps, but it's already crept into your ENWorld posts...of legacy.

:)

The Sage (of Legacy) of the Scarred Lands (of Legacy) would like to state that He, Nightfall (of Legacy) found this excerpt kind of light on the actual SUBSTANCE of what "of Legacy" is about.

Thus my posting of Legacy is now complete.
