I would have gone with Legendary instead. Legendary Weapons, Legendary Monsters. Because, a Monster of Legacy, isn't it a monster you inherit? Or inherit from?

A mind-flayer of legacy sounds like something a CoC investigator would get when his 17th mad-crackpot-uncle-with-a-spooky-victorian-manor bites the bucket and leave her, her only remaining relative (well, except for her dwindling supply of crazy occultist uncles) as his sole inheritor.

PS: But adding "of Legacy" to everything is fun nonetheless, in a nonsensical way. Titanic tauric toad of legend of legacy!

I doubt it. That template added quite a few things the mind flayer didn't have and did not include some things the mind flayer did have. My guess (purely a guess) is that it is a bit more inline with a prestige class. Small legacy? Add a few goodies. Big legacy? Add more.

Legendary Animals were in the old Masters of the Wild splatbook. They weren't from a template. I can only assume someone in marketing thought it best not to revisit that term. Maybe because something legendary may or may not exist or be true, but something with a legacy has a definite history. It's a semantic thing.

The concept is pretty cool. But when I hear "item of legacy", I can't help thinking of an ISA video card driver for Windows XP. I'm afraid I'm beyond hope.

I like the idea of having Monsters of Legacy, but without seeing the mechanics it's no different to any other template. Thus, not too exciting.

Thus, a seriously underwhelming preview. OTOH, Desert Wind was fantastic.

Hmm, Damned of Legacy: Tharen.
Does not work for me, won´t buy the book. Stupid legacy stuff...

Apart from that, I really hoped for a Weapons (of Legacy) only book.
But it seems we get the usual Stuff: Weapons (of Legacy) and Monsters (of Legacy), maybe some Prestige Classes (of Legacy and for Legacy Monsters) and some Spells (of Legacy).

The first preview made me go from "Meh" to "Wow, this book seems rather cool."

The second preview did the exact opposite. Oh, of legacy, of course.

Maybe the next preview will have a redeeming feature or something (even if it is Nifft's beholder )...
