WottC Miniature Handbook Same Mistake as Chainmail?

Does "Cry Havoc" include rules for 3D combat/movement? That is one element in the minis handbook that I will be taking a look at.

My problem with Chainmail in the first place was that it wasn't good for much more than your normal small-scale skirmishes that DnD already does well enough, yet was just different enough to not really be the same game... Hence, it served no realy purpose that I could see. I'm seeing the same thing here.

No, a different mistake

Its not the same mistake, it s adifferent mistake.

I think its funny that in making D&D more like a "miniatures game" they removed one of the features of a great many miniatures games: free movement measured with rulers.

It looks like the D&D minis game will continue this mistake by making the explicit miniature game grid based.

I'm not really getting sold on this product.

If I want skirmish rules, all I have to do is play D&D3.whatever. Those are skirmish rules.

If I want mass combat, I either want something pretty schematic (because I'm plopping it into a session) or pretty detailed. For the former Green Ronin's Testament works fine; for the latter I can get a set of miniatures rules far, far cheaper and with apparently greater detail (Hordes Of Things comes to mind for mass fantasy rules).

So what is covered by these rules that makes them so indespensible?

Certainly not the random miniatures...

Why becuase I'm concerned that Hasbro may see more profit in a collectable miniature based D&D? Probably a lot of revenue there. It's a possibility, which is all I've ever stated.

You say that like profit is a bad thing.

Let's get this straight. If any company doesn't make money on their brands they go out of business.

Maybe I'm missing a piece of the puzzle here but how exactly is that a better deal?
