I was going to wait till later to post this, but I think that now is as good as any time....
So, would you download, for free, a game suppliment on Astrology/Astronomy?

Other: Lemon curry?

I would probably download it (wheter it is campaign specific or not) and look if there's something interesting or usable in it.

I would love to see a supplement that details the stars & constellations of a specific world (I favor the Forgotten Realms myself); detailing the major worlds would be really nice. The details of how Astronomy works are less interesting to me, since I've got a pretty good understanding of this myself.

Particularly, I'd like to know about (and could even help contribute if you like):

The Zodiac for a specific world--12 constellations? More? Less? How this is supposed to affect personality and other factors for Astrology?

Other Constellations and some of the legends that go with them.

Planets; what they're called; what color they are; stuff like that.

Moons & Lycanthropy.

That's pretty much all I can think of off the top of my head. If you'd like my help on a project like this, my email is: johnlowell@mac.com I was an Astronomy minor in college, if that helps.

Well, I'd have a problem doing anything on a published world due to copyright law, so if I were to do it campaign specific it would be on the setting I'm currently working on.

Ee gads! I can't see more than a paragraph explaining how Knowledge: Astronomy works. Anything more would be more boring than solitary confinement!

Thanks, but I prefer working alone.

Of course, the Zodiac would be at least one whole chapter in such a suppliment.

Other Constellations and some of the legends that go with them.
Always the funnest part of astronomy, IMHO.

Planets; what they're called; what color they are; stuff like that.
Less important, but worth mentioning in any book that calls itself an astronomy suppliment.

Moons & Lycanthropy.
Ehh.... maybe a sidebar....

Like I said before, I prefer working alone. Thanks for your input though! Astronomy minor, eh? Though I've had no formal education in the field, Astronomy has always been an interest to me. You know the saying, "Write what you know" and all. Then again, its kind of hard to get a formal education in a subject they don't teach at the school you go to...

Hmmm...

This is actually one of my current projects. I'm trying to develop a system of how astonomy would affect the magic of the world. For example, if the time is currently duing one of the fire signs, fire magic might have a penalty to the saving throws. Of course, I'd like it to be (at least) a bit more detailed than that. I'd like it to be easy enough to use with out stopping the flow of the game, and be one of the mysteries the players can try to figure out.

I'm not really interested in how astonomy tells about a person's personality, or predicts the future. While there are tons of info on such things, it would seem to me to take too much away from the players' characters.

So, if your suppliment would help me do this, I would download it in a heartbeat!

Vague...

A suppelement like this could be a lot of things, I think...

I dunno. Right now, my campiagn setting's calendar is done by zodiac symbols instead of months, and seasons are refered to by elemental names. I'm also introducing the Zodiac symbols as gods to be worshiped. But that's just IMC.

As for one in general...I think it would be nigh-impossible to do one that isn't setting-specific, but, also, a setting-specific one would be only of use to those who play in that setting, and so is of limited use to the majority of DM's who homebrew their stuff.

Well, your project will likely be done before mine is, maybe before I even start, because I have at least two major projects which take precidence over it that I'm working on first. If by some freak nature I manage to finish first, however, I'm not sure how much help it would be. If the poll keeps going as it is I'll end up doing it like the Manual of the Planes: Generic with my setting's astronomy as the example. As far as magic goes, probably some spells and items, maybe an Astronomy domain or somesuch....

Well, thats the kind of thing I have to work around. I'll probably end up doing a MotP type thing: As generic as possible but using my setting as a baseline to work off of. Of course like MotP it'll end up mostly setting specific with a small bit on other stuff....

As my campaign is set in Polynesia ( a World of Islands) Astral Navigation is very important as such a basic knowledge of Astronomy (I use real world Polynesian stuff) is essential.

However beyond knowing the names of certain constellations/stars/planets, stuff about starpaths (where on the horizon they rise/fall and what angle of declination they have at a particular time of the year) and some 'stellar legends' to use a game hooks Astronomy is to broad and specialised a feild to be a must have supplement.

Now a Supplement on Astral Navigation and Meterology would be good

Come to think of it

1. The Heavens - detailing the origin of the Celestial Field/Stars/Planets and the place of the game World within it (Cosmic Myths & Legends, Geocentric 'worlds' orbited by the sun and moon, Fantasy-Science (eg Crystal Spheres))

2. Life amongst the Stars - are Stars/Planets sentient beings?, do Efreets lie chained at the heart of the Sun, is the Moon made of Cheese?, do kobolds come from Mars? Are Blackholes Gateways to the Shadow realm?

3. The effect of Constellations/Stars/Planets on the World - Science of Lycanthorpy, Zodiac Magic, Planetary Alignments, The Curse of Haleys Comet, Magic-laden Solar Flares, and the Cataclysms which occur whenever the Galaxy makes a full rotation around its axis (a Galactic Year)

4. Astral Navigation and meterology - as per above (and essential)

5. Gaming amongst the Stars - gotta have it the new Astromariner PrC, travelling through the stars, Star Galleons and Space Frigates, Stellar geography, Blackhole Monsters, Star Dragons and Space Giant Asteroid herders

Astral Navigation might be a skill or somesuch... I don't really think a whole gaming book on it would be interesting... certainly not for me to write....
1. The Heavens - detailing the origin of the Celestial Field/Stars/Planets and the place of the game World within it (Cosmic Myths & Legends, Geocentric 'worlds' orbited by the sun and moon, Fantasy-Science (eg Crystal Spheres))
Certainly a consideration...

2. Life amongst the Stars - are Stars/Planets sentient beings?, do Efreets lie chained at the heart of the Sun, is the Moon made of Cheese?, do kobolds come from Mars? Are Blackholes Gateways to the Shadow realm?
Well, that might be an interesting sidebar, but certainly not the focus of the book.

3. The effect of Constellations/Stars/Planets on the World - Science of Lycanthorpy, Zodiac Magic, Planetary Alignments, The Curse of Haleys Comet, Magic-laden Solar Flares, and the Cataclysms which occur whenever the Galaxy makes a full rotation around its axis (a Galactic Year)
I'll consider adding things to this effect (of course, for the Galactic Year thing to be of any worth at all, it must be near its end, and there must be a way to divert the cataclysmic nature of it...)

4. Astral Navigation and meterology - as per above (and essential)
See above.

5. Gaming amongst the Stars - gotta have it the new Astromariner PrC, travelling through the stars, Star Galleons and Space Frigates, Stellar geography, Blackhole Monsters, Star Dragons and Space Giant Asteroid herders
This seems like something that is handled better by a seperate product... I try to keep my space aliens to a minimum....
