See above post. that particular "ability' is helpful in so few circumstances its barely worth mentioning. Look at everything that the other races get VS what half elves have and tell me they didnt get the short end of the stick.
Incdentaly in the poll I did a while back out of 124 votes 98 people voted for a change of some kind

maybe if they gave the half elf the extra skill points of a human i would play one. but i have to agree being able to choose your favored class isnt that special. i like the idea of half elves but dont like the execution.:(

The problem is thats only helpful if you take 3 or more non prestige classes...something most people dont do at least in my experience.

Huh? You can incur XP penalties with only 2 classes.

Like an Elven Rgr1/RogX... normally an obvious min-max combination for the high-dex two-weapon sneak-attack finesse machine... except that he takes a 20% XP penalty to do it.

The half-elf can do it with no XP hit.

I'm used to thinking in terms of taking a class only if you intend to like...advance it at least a little ways for character reasons. this whole thing of taking like one or two levels of a class for certain abilities is new to me. if you keep to classes within a couple levels of each other you suffer no XP penalty.
And Crothian..I covered that already. its not just about the numbers...although yes I dont think any race should be made drasticaly less powerful than the others. Most of us also dont feel that the half elf fits on a roleplay level. And knowing WoTC they wont change it anyway...although many people already house rule them. Edit: No its not bad because "people fail to take advantage of it". its a very minor thing that only plays into very specfic circumstances...its not really one of the "abilities" of humans. and since your so worried about RP over numbers...as hypersmurf mentioned when people DO take advantage of that abiltity its to take one level of a class just to enhance their characters damage output or some such

Drastically less powered? I've played one and that is so not the case. You keep saying that the numbers don't matter, but they obviously do. Compaired to an elf, there isn't that much of a difference. And extra +1 to three skills, a few weapons profs, slightly higher Dex, slightly lower con.

Edit to respond to the edit: Not everyone multi classes for power. Some do take the class or classes that makes sense to them.

That's true. In which case, it doesn't matter if you take seven non-PrC classes. As long as you keep them all within a level of each other, no XP penalty.

So why did you choose 3 as the number to cite, when it's completely arbitrary... (except of course for the minimum number of 2)?

And the special search ability...and a much longer life span. and a "few weapon profs" is nothing to be laughed at.
Personaly I'd like to see them get extra skill points as a human does to actualy reflect their human side.

I said 3 or more. and because I think in terms of multiclassing in the sense of taking like multiple levels of classes. I understand thats not how most people do it but thats how my brain works. and if you take 6 or 8 classes and keep them all within 2 levels of each other...well your not going to get very far in any of them and thats not something I'd ever seen anyone doing...but yes you could. My point is that the Any multiclass ability aside from the use you stated is not exactly anything to write home about. Especialy not the way I'm used to playing.
