Would you still play RPG:s if...

... the communities disappeared?

... you couldn't work with the game in your spare time, at all?

... the game of your choice was discontinued?

Feel free to answer these questions, or create a question or two yourself. :)

Honestly I think I wouldn't play D&D today if it weren't for the internet communities and the fact that it's really fun to work with it, create characters and such. Someone said gaming is the best 20 minutes you will have in 4 hours (or something like that) and I must say I agree, although I don't like to admit it. :) I wouldn't mind much if WotC disappeared though because there are plenty of material already for the game.

HMM
No. The people (and communities thereof) are why I game. No people -- no game

maybe. I do very little prep for my game of choice (Cinematic Unisystem) so I am flexible there

Discontinued? No biggy. I have tons of material and new games are always coming out. As long a I like the rules well enough and have time and good players I am cool.

Having no time to work on RPGs in my spare time would be the only major problem seeing as I DM alot. I can always make time though don't see how I would never be able to. But I guess that'd just me I'd have to be a player full time.

Lack of internet communities wouldn't effect my frequency of playing at all and I could run a good d&d game with just the core rule books (plus all the other books I own) so I wouldn't care if D&D was discontinued (same applys to other RPGs I play).

If I couldn't find a good group of gamers or having litterally no free time would be the only 2 ways to stop me from playing short of death.

I already live this life

I have no local groups
I have no home support
I barely get any time to work on stuff
I am a huge fan of several dead game systems
Still I am a gamer

1.I'd continue, granted, there are still players, just no internet comunity. I would loose a lot of insight and help though.

2.It would stop me from DMing, but not from playing.

3.I'd continue for some time, then switch systems or homebrew.

Without a doubt, losing the internet communities and product support from the publishers would NOT keep me from gaming. My gaming began before the days of the internet, so that's not an issue. If the gaming publishers stopped putting out new product, my own imagination is sufficient to fuel my games for as long as I wish to continue.

If Green Ronin closed up shop, I still have enough Freeport stuff to keep me going. As long as I can keep in contact with my friends, I will keep gaming.

if there are people who will play dnd with me then there is no chance i will ever stop gaming. sadly, i can't find too many people to play with... :(
the loss of the internet would mean nothing to me, as it means nothing to me right now as well. :\
if i wouldn't have any spare time and there will be people to play with then i'll make some free time. if four hours a week will mean my death then i probably deservr to die. ;)
if dnd was discontinued it wouldn't really matter to me, i'd keep playing anyway or maybe swich to a different system. i have the core books and need nothing else, so as long as there are people willing to play i'll be playing too.

I've always been able to recruit new players fairly easily, so probably not. The internet communities are useful to mine for ideas or help get past a block, but otherwise, I'm not sure if they really affect my actual gaming all that much.

Isn't D20 already so bulky that this becomes an issue? :] Seriously, probably not. Whenever I don't have time to work with the game (which is never, especially since I am a designer), I turn to preprinted adventures. With over 100 issues of Dungeon, most of Necromancer Games adventures, and an uncountable number of online adventures, I could probably run players just through pre-printes stuff for years before running out of material.

Heck, that would just kill my part-time job of game design, it would not stop me from gaming. Rather than having to go out and buy a hardback book or three every month, I would be able to sit on top of my mountain of books and call the collection finished.

Did that between 1983 and 1992, so why not?

That's what slow times at work are for. ;)

Seriously, though, playing doesn't require much prep time. Running a game only requires a lot of prep time if you are running one that makes it a chore...like 3e/3.5. I've run games of SAGA, Savage Worlds, and 7th Sea with almost NO prep time (ok, maybe 30 minutes to jot down some notes).

Sure. I just wouldn't be spending a lot of money on them.
