Would your group stop a woman from joining?

I've seen quite a large number of "girl gamer" posts (I guess this is the new fad, not my previous idea of "poorly translated foreign games" after all, darn), and that got me to wondering. My Ironclaw group would refuse to let a woman join our group, and I aggree with it for a very good reason. We were 5 gay men in a pretty...frisky game. A woman joining would have thrown that all out of whack.

I was wondering if anyone else out there played in a group that would have an issue with a woman joining.

You know it is funny you bring this up.

Well not really but I digress.

When we aren't being insane and overwrought we are actually fun to be around and game with if such is our chosen hobby.

You can keep woman from gaming, I think it would make a GREAT houserule.

Naw.
We've had some girls game with us for short periods, but they never really were interested in the game, so they dropped of their own accord. They were also girlfriends of some of the players.
Thankfully, that didn't get bad.

Still, I could see the appeal of a 'guys night out' type of game, get away from the 'female authority figure back home' or somesuch. Hey, guys routinely get together to play poker or go out for drinks, why should D&D be any different? ;)

However, I'd like to say we're pretty open minded.

Uh, how do you guys do intraparty relationships if you only have one gender, and your players are attracted to the other gender? I mean, it's easier for my group to have relationships when there is a player who is of the gender that they are attracted to, as well as the character being of that gender.

Call me crazy.

They very definitely _don't_ do intraparty relationships! :)
In fact it seems a lot of these "men only" groups don't do relationships between PCS & NPCs either, after all _the GM is a guy_, so that would be creepy/yucky/pervy. Apparently.

Edit: I'm only referring to a certain sort of all-males no-girls-allowed group. If you think this doesn't apply to your group, it doesn't.

Good roleplaying and imagination. Being able to tell the difference between in-character and out-of-character relationships. I've seen two heterosexual males, one playing a female character, one playing a male character, have their characters have a relationship and eventually even marriage, while the players had zero interest in each other.

It's my experience that such players exist, but they aren't the norm. If each and every one of your players is that able to disassociate RP from RL, I commend you.

Cross-gender PCs- thats a whole 'nother can o' worms...

I'm a guy, but I play what the PC concept demands (including different genders), unless the GM doesn't allow me to play the character.

Personally, playing a different gender is no different than playing a different species.

In our group most have GFs or wifes. The game night is a guys night. So I dont believe we'd allow a girl to join. At least no ones suggested it. So thats what I answered. I'm not totally against the idea, but I also would like to have one guys only activity, where you can conduct yourself more freely (that isnt drinking beer, which is also a nice activity) .. etc.

I can think of a few players that enjoy being their own masters .. if only for a couple of hours in a week :] No point ruining that

I don't understand the mentality of those who do limit ladies at the game table. I hope I never do. :D

Do you understand the need for any male-only activities? Hanging with your male friends instead of them and their GFs and wifes or other females is pretty different, wouldn't you agree?

If you can understand that line of reasoning, then explain why D&D can't be that activity?

edit: whoops, I accidentally used almost insulting tone. sorry.

Personally, not really, no. If I want to go drink in a pub I can do it with my wife & her giant Texan (female) friend and have at least as good a time as with male friends. Maybe if my wife was a very girly-girl it might be different, but we're not that different in what we like and I don't feel the need to 'escape' from her. She doesn't play in my regular D&D game but she'd be welcome to if she wished (and she does play Neverwinter Nights - she likes it far more than I do, she bought all the expansion packs which I couldn't be bothered playing).
