Saw both, went to see Matrix again, this weekend will probably see Matrix again (3rd time).

X2 was an awesome movie, much better than the first (Mystique was more Mystique, more X-men, good guys forced to work with bad guys, etc). I really liked seeing Wolverine's beserker rage, and the different X-squads doing their thing.

Matrix just took the cake though. No-one can do explosions like the matrix, and the fight scenes are nearly unparalleled. The story took us deeper down the rabbit hole, allowing for tons of rampant speculation.

The biggest difference is that with X-men I feel I know what to expect (having read the comics). The good guys will win, with few casualties and noone really important will be killed off. While the same can be said for Matrix, it just seemed more fresh. Its a new story, and a newer idea (circa 1999) as opposed to the 50 (?) year old Xmen.

X2 was more balanced of the two, mixing story and action. Matrix had some momnets that dragged out too long and acting was so-so. Special effects, well Matrix kicks on that BUT quaility vs quanity X2 used special effects better while having less.

The one thing I have noticed about all the people who praise Reloaded is that they were into it because of the effects. How many of them like it as a movie? (story and flow...etc...) I know of only a few who were into it for reasons other than the special effects. I understand the speculation of what it all means makes for an interesting point of view..... *shrugs* I can't seem to explain my thought process. :)

I was not blown away by the action and effects in Reloaded and that was the reason I went to see it initially. I was actually more entertained by the conversations with the Oracle, Merovingian & Architect. But, on the whole as a film it was a little limp. Made for great conversation afterwards but that's because we all are reading into the movie a great deal. I like talking about it but I was not as entertained watching it as I was for X2. I'll have to see it again to make a final call as to Reloaded as a whole and separate from X2.

I really enjoyed X2, I left that movie commenting on how pleased I was with it. I've been collecting X-Men comics since the end of the original incarnation of X-Factor (talk about your bad timing), and thought they did a very good job of communicating the essence of Xavier, Magneto, Cyclops, Jean, Kurt, and Wolvie. The only character who I really don't like is Storm, but that's besides the point. In two short marketable movies they established almost all of the important dynamics that make these characters who they are and as such I loved the movie. Cyclops is who he is because of the pain he has endured. I hated when then they chose someone that much younger than Jean originally, but in the scene in the Oval Office he really nailed the part.

The Matrix was a good movie. The rave drug on and on, my wife enjoyed seeing Keanu's hairless butt, no one took on any of the injuries they should have from the butt kicking they were giving or taking, but c'mon! It gave me another 2 hours to live inside that world. I love the Matrix. I love the animatrix, I love the original movie, I love the concept, the delivery, and the style. But I still walked out of the theatre after having watched the preview for Revolutions thinking to myself...

"Y'know, it was good, but I really enjoyed X2 more. I wonder if someone has posted the Architect's dialogue on the EN Boards yet?"

I don't like Storm either, but seeing Halle Berry in that tight shirt more makes it worth it.

As a matter of fact, I think X2 had a lot more sex appeal than the first one. Just another reason why it's better than X-Men. :D
