Yeah, I ran into that before. It sucks that stuff can't just be upgraded like in D&D magin items, but so it is. Like if you have + 2 armor and want to get +3 armor, you have to sell the +2 stuff and buy the +3 stuff all new. Sucks, but such is life...

If the only reason is because I already did it, then i say change the rule and give me a rebate! :D I thought it didn't make sense before either, but I went with it. I'd be happy to see the rule change, because otherwise, upgrading equipment costs more because you lose half the value of the item you are selling to upgrade.

I did not do any upgrading of equipment from +1 to +2 without selling it and buying it again. I understand that that has to be done. What I did do (for example) was buy a phoenix style weapon, a spider style weapon, and a snake style weapon, and say "I will represent these items, along with my fan style weapon, as a single item."

The beauty of DnD items is that the rate at which you earn money was apparently calculated with tables, charts and such and then the monsters were all given just enough money to make the rate of progression work out about perfectly for advances in power. However, in this game its all random and I had little idea at the time that money and items would pile up so quickly as they do. This makes it more difficult to make the monsters as challenging at the top end while still keeping experience within reason. If I ever work out a second version of the rules one of the things that will definitely get redone is items and money. (Course either of you feel free to work out a better system that takes into account experience, challenge ratings and item possession.)

For example Kalath is hardly challenged by any CR equivalent to his hits due to armor and with Sharlea's weapons she is quickly approaching the same problem.

Course as I see it the whole thing is a first run really and I am not suprised there are some bugs in the thing.

So the fan was ALWAYS made of phoenix feathers and such? I figure we should either be able to upgrade all items and armor, or none of them like it is now. I'd rather see upgrading possible, but Wicht is the DM.

If necessary to preserve the rules, I will buy the following instead of what I posted above.

Dragon style weapon -- 2 yen
Fang style weapon -- 2 yen
Phoenix style weapon -- 2 yen
Spider style weapon -- 2 yen
Snake style weapon -- 2 yen
Northstar style weapon -- 2 yen
Scorpion style weapon -- 2 yen
Rat style weapon -- 2 yen
Tiger style weapon -- 2 yen
Jaguar style weapon -- 2 yen
Panther style weapon -- 2 yen
Wolf style weapon -- 2 yen
Fox style weapon -- 2 yen
Falcon style weapon -- 2 yen
Owl style weapon -- 2 yen
Raven style weapon -- 2 yen
Mantis style weapon -- 2 yen
Crab style weapon -- 2 yen
+2 Claw style weapon -- 5 yen
Claws sold -- +1 yen
Great-Hammer sold -- +3.5 yen

Summary of damage added due to items (ignore all the flavor in the Being Worn/Wielded line of Kalath's stats -- to preserve the rules, the actual weapons he has are all seperate)
+1: dragon, fang, dagger, staff, kama, sword, spear, chopsticks, fan, spider, snake, fist, needle, tree, thorn, rat, vine, northstar, scorpion, tiger, jaguar, panther, wolf, fox, falcon, owl, raven, mantis, crab
+2: claw
+3: hammer

Note how the effect is the exact same as what I posted above. The only thing different is the flavor. But if it is felt that I really need to do it this way, I guess I can.

[Edit: IMO, as long as the game effect is the same, the flavor does not matter. That is why I did what I did in the original post -- I believed that because the amount I would spend would be the same, it would not matter how the new weapons were represented.]

Ok that makes sense :)

I give in. Go ahead and do it the way you did it first and Sharlea can have a rebate ;)

ooc: Heh, thank you Wicht. When I really upgrade the weapons (from +1 to +2, for example) I will do the sell and buy new thing... its just when you are adding +1 of another style on there is no reason to do that.

*takes deep breath* Back to the adventure.

-----

Once he has done that, Kalath heads back into Wicht's Lair. Once back in the cemetery, he travels northward, keeping to the path of fear, and making for the entrance to the goblin's layer of the lair.

right, back to the lair (though I smell supper cooking so this is likely my last post for a few hours)

Kalath arrives back at the cemetery a few days later. The gate is now guarded by an orc. As Kalath approaches the orc sized him up and then opens the gate for him.

It is the day of the hawk.

Kalath makes it through the cemetery with little difficulty and soon finds himself at the entrance to the lair proper. There is a curious smell, as of burnt flesh coming out of the large cave mouth.

Kalath enters the goblin caves and looks around, looking for the source of the burning smell.

He then continues onwards, walking straight north until he comes to the intersection left and right that leads to two wooden doors, and he heads right towards the door he went through to get to Rettville's territory before.
