YBA Revision Planning

yeah the other fighter refers to any other fighter other than you or the attacker. It will be noticed the power is useless in a one on one fight but is useful for large scale conflicts. It is typical too of the genre. Kung-fu movies always have someone redirecting someones attack at another hapless combatant.

Creamsteak I have been trying not to really comment on the suggestions, though I have been reading them. That way people feel more comfortable in posting their ideas and there is more brainstorming.

I will say that in looking at new powers I try to ask myself a couple of things.
- How more complicated will this make the book-keeping aspects of the game.
- Can this be duplicated be an already existing power, i.e. is it necessary
- Does this work better than an existing duplicate power... and if so is it too much better or not good enough.

I really am just looking at ideas now. Sometime in the future I will sit down and actually plot out the new power structures but when I do, I want to do them all together. Doing it piecemeal leads to more inbalance than is necessary.

Isn't redirect somewhat too powerful compared to bodyguard?

Also it seems to be increasing the power of the Dirty Trick chain and its already a hideously bad idea not to have a dirty trick.

Has anybody ever used bodyguard?

It is certain that some of the powers are far too effective compared to comparable powers and costs. For example, a poison blade compared to steal life just is not worth it.

Some powers therefore need to be cheaper and some of them more expensive.

But thats also some of the feedback I am looking for right now.

Just a thought, but couldn't the amount of points received each level be upped to 6?
It would allow for a bit more balancing out of ability costs. But I don' know if it would be balanced against yen then :(

Not sure what purpose this serves but the following creature can beat any Holy Warrior without a DT of up to its CR pretty much automatically. There is no real way to have an equivalent for Unholy Warriors which may be a bit unbalanced.

Evil Holy Warrior Killer
Hits 10+
CR 9+
Powers:
Master of the X (9 XP)
Unholy Warrior (2 XP)
Unholy Strke (5 XP)
Dirty Trick (3 XP)
Unholy Batter (X+4Ki) (Where X is the Holy Warrior in questions Chi/2) (8+X XP)
Undead (5 XP)
Life Drain (5 XP)
Energy Drain (5 XP)
Total: 42 XP

(May need even less, its possible that 4 Ki aren't needed depending on how many active powers the foe has. Being a holy warrior these will be limited to PM,Strat Planner, Holy Day and Holy light pretty much. FoF if they can't afford Holy Light)

The above combination would be even more deadly if the holy warrior didn't have Holy Strike because Holy Day would be close to useless.

For a more advanced Holy Warrior just add more Ki and this thing is pretty much the guaranteed winner it does 3 hits per hit vs 1 hit a hit and can shove any active power its foe makes. How do I know this ? Experience with a blackguard that didn't even have the last 3 powers that was doing extremely well against Monderefal when he had about 12 natural hits and his foe about CR 6 .

Also another problem with YBA is its much easier to null a power or even with the proposed redirect power change it to suit yourself than it is to get the power. A Shove is cheaper than a FoF a Perfect Mastery or a Strategic Planner, while being the same cost as a Poison Blade, a sneaky trick or a Holy Day.

It shouldn't be so easy to nullify powers people have paid XP for in my opinion.

well, the only power that can null everything is Fated...

but i think that we should keep defensive powers... dirty trick is a holy cow! perhaps we should add a holy version, like "avoidance" or "abeyance"... something....

I don't mind the defensive powers I'm just saying they are too cheap compared to even their active offensive counter parts, they blow passive offensives out of the water. Would you rather a Dirty Trick and a Shove or Expert of the X ? Or Dirty Trick and a Shove or Fist of Fury ?

Dirty Trick at a cost of 3 is always going to be superior to taking a FoF or Expert. It lets you go second which is an advantage, and it lets you negate anyone who has an FoF against you.

I agree with Kal, that it should cost the same as the highest power it can negate (FoF). It just makes more sense... since you can almost always use a DT to counter an FoF.
