and 1 yen - yes

The wood from the barricade makes a suitable pyre for the three bodies and soon the whole room is filled with smoke.

The only exits from the room are the tunnels on the north and south walls.

Sharlea will go out the tunnel to the north.

This tunnel was barricaded? Interesting.

Wicht, see my questions in my last post please...

Epic foes are purely in the eyes of the beholder. Any fight that garners you more than 1 experience is technically epic as it allows the potential of garnering an epic power (provided of course you already had 3.5 to 4 experience points.) To be honest, IMO if you had 4.5 experience points and gained 1 more you would still be able to buy fated though the foe was not really an "epic foe."

Oh and the barricade was not meant to actually stop anybody, it was more along the lines of a boundary behind which the orcs could stand.

The tunnel goes north for about fifteen feet and then ends at a "T." The branch going to the right has a fork going north after ten feet as does the branch to the left. There are lights further down in both tunnels and from both directions Sharlea can hear orcs.

After ten feet, Sharlea comes to the split in the path. The tunnel going north veers sharply to the left after about ten feet and she cannot see what is at the end of it. The one in front of her goes another fifteen or so feet before opening into a room. There are a number of orcs in it, sitting around a table, but none of them have noticed her yet.

Ducking quickly into the tunnel leading north, Sharlea will listen to hear anything she can from the Orcs around the table. Perhaps there will be some good info she can pick up. She will also be sure to keep an ear out for anything around the corner in the tunnel she is hiding in.

The orcs are not talking about anything more exciting than the hand of cards they are playing.

Now that she has moved down the tunnel a bit, Sharlea also sees that the tunnel curves to the left and then joining with another tunnel leads to a set of stairs going down.

Wicht, I have another YBA DMing question. In the adventure I ran for Darkwolf, his character was sent to retrieve an item and kill the one who sole it. In the final fight with the thief, I had the item worked in as part of his possessions. For a CR3 foe, this one dagger used up 12 of the 15 Yen/Exp I could uuse to pump this guy up. Now since the item was not meant to be kept by DW's character after the mission, I had the person who gave him the mission recompensate him for the 12 Yen that the dagger was worth.

Do you think that was too generous or should the character just have lost out on some of the booty from an Epic fight and not get recompensated? I don't remember if Kalath got anything for Glengary's necklace when he gave it up, or if that neclace was thrown in on top of his regular Yen/Exp purchases for Glengary's CR, or what. Just wanted to see what you thought about this.

Kalath did not get compensated for it, but then again he gave it up willingly.

If I was going to compensate that way however I probably would have gone for the market value of 6 yen, instead of the full 12 yen.

Also for what its worth, as long as you don't get too out of hand you can probably mess around a little with the CR/Powers ratio. The goblin zombies for instance actually had what I considered 6 exp worth of powers instead of 5. I have routinely assumed that the orcs and goblins in the lair are trained by their leaders and thus give them their powers at the reduced rate. I have also never counted any epic power as costing more than 5 exp for the purpose of making monsters. Though I have not given every villain an epic power either. Turtle's foes have not all been done exactly according to book in his adventure but I haven't said anything to him about it.

The orcs are as above

Round: 1
Hits 2 / 2 / 2 / 2

Orc 1 attacks: The monkey rends the wetlands; leaps over the punch of the arrow!

Orc 2 attacks: The blizzard dodges underneath the pillars; averts the storm of the heart!

Orc 3 attacks: The fist swims within the mesa; averts the throw of the rodent!

Orc 4 attacks: The panther shouts through the pond; dodges the energy of the body!
