Yeah that's right, I killed a DRAGON single handed

The dragon special was last sunday and I think the repeat is march 26. Surf over to animal planet and get the schedule. It only a half hour long with half hour making of it.

I think the best use I've ever gotten out of a dragon was in 2nd ed from Ed's Dragons of the North, Balagos the Flying Flame.

The party new an adventuring mercenary known as Red Raven. She was styled after one of the characters in Battle Chasers comic to basically be a competent piece of cheesecake to always bug the players.

She's not heard from in several months.

Shows up claiming to have the map to the lair of the Flying Flame.

Leads the party there and hey, guess what, she was the Flying Flame via a Polymorph spell. Wiped the party out in mere three rounds.

That whole scenario was inspired by one of the short Dragonlance stories in Dragon magazien.

Worked well.

oops.

In my game world, Lost Empires back in the 80;s we played the old timeline of the world, back when Dragons were still there. Well if anyone remembers an old Dragon issue it had a Green Dragon named Valinor. Well after the dragon war the good dragons were tracking down the rest of the evil dragons or Malcerbus they were called. The PC's had the notion that they could take it on, why not it had a fighter on the cover of all the old box sets taking them on by themselves. ( I told them they just didnt show the other 50 men behind them on the box) so they said they could do it.
So Pentegarn the 3rd a wizard, Gelic the ranger, Toshi the ninja, and Melude the cavalier set out to face Valinor. They tracked her down into a cave, the dragon warned them, how dare you threaten me, and of course the cavalier replied "foolish Dragon Ill have your head" (first mistake she actually lead them there) To make a long story short it was like Bill gates taking on the Rock. She wiped the walls with them, all you saw was the cavalier running all banged up and he didnt make it far since it was all open fields around.
that was the first land kast esson in dragon fighitng for them.

I'll keep my eye out for it, thanks!

Ahh, Battlechasers... too bad it was so short lived.

I seem to recall that story as well, I believe it was called "The Best". Heh, you'd never fool my group with that one though - I burned them with the same scenerio once years and years ago... I taught them early on to trust no one.:p

Cheers!

Actually its an hour and a half, with the extra half hour of 'making of' stuff after.

www.dragonsarecoming.com

go there, and youll see the making of videos anyway without watching it Saturday.

And I guess you dont watch APL much...they've been pimiping the dragons special for over a month in virtually every commercial break.

The one time I killed a dragon was almost single-handed...

2nd level barbarian with the UA "whirling frenzy" rage variant; 22 strength while in a frenzy, +1 flaming greatsword...two attacks per round, at +6 to hit, 2d6+10 damage, +1d6 fire...minimum of 13 damage, maximum of 50 (24+20+6) on a critical.

The young black dragon was sleeping in the entrance of a cave that we were trying to get out of via the other end. The rogue tripped on him in the dark. He tried to eat the rogue, I attacked.

Two rounds, four attacks, three criticals, not a single roll on the 2d6 under 10.

The dragon was dead, and the DM had a "" look on his face.

That character was so overpowered it wasn't even funny...it's probably because of the stats I rolled, partly (18 str, 15 dex, 16 con, 14 int, 12 wis, 16 cha)...he went on to take leadership, get a Cleric of Sune as a cohort, and successfully grapple the head Pasha of Calimport into a dimensional toilet to the abyss...

He also helped kill the tentacled-dire-cactus-of-chaos in the Axe of the Dwarvish Lords adventure...

Then he retired with the rest of the group on a private island, because we were too powerful.
