She'll be happy to hear that! :D

... But she won't get 1000 bonus XPs. :] Maybe 200...

Do you have the Book of Exalted Deeds ? It addresses that very situation: Paladins turning evil creatures to the Light side (in fact, there is a redeemed Illithid example in the book).

It is based on the Diplomacy skill, and takes a little while, but given enough time, success is almost assured. If indeed successful, it also states (IIRC) that the character should be awarded XP again as if defeating the creature. You don't HAVE to be a Paladin to redeem a critter, although they do come to mind.

Ton Kilométrage Peut Varier. :D

Monte Cook's Book of Hallowed Might (1) had a different take; feats that let you do the same thing, but in both directions. Redeem allows the character to turn Evil to Good; Tempt allows Good to be seduced to Evil.

I had been making something similar available as a granted power to Clerics in my 2nd Edition game for some time.

in Dragon magazine around... #78 or so... they had rules for converting the masses and gaining xps for clerics and paladins...

Is it written in stone that the critter is dead? Maybe make it only MOSTLY dead? I would honestly hate to have to abandon a storyline this rich. However, like all things, if it's past, it's past... *sigh*

So, securing a rope around the arachnoidish aberration, he heals it back to its feet, and let it go. He's lead to a merry tour of the old caves, before the rest of the party finally catches up with him, and demonstrates to him that the slasher is, in fact, just fleeing from him and his torchlight, rather than going to a particular location.

"Hey, paladin boy! Stop screwing around with that pussy on legs!"

I think your player roleplayed very well! If I was dming your group and using Feng Shui, I would have given her 4 experience points for good roleplaying, maybe 5. If she moved me so powerfully, 6.

(In Feng Shui, Experience isn't American Dollars, it's GOLD!). Anyway, if I were playing the paladin in the group, I would have tried to do the same thing. Since I would have his moral code already spelled out using Pendragon's traits and passions system.
