If the option was "your late, so play either a Cleric or Warlord cause WOTC says we need the 'leader' role filled..."

According to WotC, they aren't going to do that. They want to make it easy to run a game with some roles unfilled and some filled several times.

Yes, it will be easier to identify a character's role, which will be more significant, but not limit them as much.

Right?

Anyone else having trouble guessing what will really happen?

A "leader" shouldn't be chosen based on his character class.

I dont believe that WotC is planning to pigeon-hole the classes to that extent. Or at least I hope they aren't planning that.

The purpose of this poll was to learn if the cleric will be extinct due to too few players picking the class. Not that it would be removed from the game by the designers. (Few interested players means the splat book will come last.)

I've been following the trend and it seems warlord and cleric are about equally popular. Certainly the poplularity of each class will depend greatly upon what the mechanics dictate. But I think a lot of people will decide with their hearts and might know already what class to pick, if given the somewhat limited choice above. The reason you can only pick warlord or cleric is that we have not yet heard of an arcane leader. Maybe the bard will fill that power source/role later on. Who knows?

To sum up. Today there is no reason to fear the cleric will become forgotten since the class has a strong fan-following. And that's nice.

I voted 'I refuse to lead'. I'm a controller at heart.

Take the Cleric as an example: He's called a leader, and I read that they will "never be punished doing leadery things". That could mean that they don't have to forego their flame strike or attack with the mace if they have to heal someone. It's no longer "heal someone or attack the enemy", but it would be both.

Wizards, on the other hand, will never run out of spells that affect multiple enemies (because they're controllers)
