There are some Monsters we just love... some we hate an some we love to hate or hate to love.

There are some that stick with us and some that we remember for a significant reason (ie Your 29th level dies 1xp away from 30th and he is beyond raising - this monster killed him)

I know that this poll will result in "My monster isnt on there" and I have chosen only some that ring a bell with me and hopefuly others.... oh and because I cant make the poll the size of the MM's combined!

I seem to have a lot of "best" monsters.

You left off some I used last session: the bullette and the treant. The treant (in a 4E version) nicely terrorized the party.

And the bullette, now that is a classic:

LOL

I always wanted to terrorize a group by just having a spikey fin appearing from under the soil and then just playing Jaws music
"Dun un, Dun un, Dun un-Dun-un"

.... Then not doing anything thing

LAND SHARK!!!

I have fun with oozes.

Coming up with a new thing to do with an ooze each time one appears is a good exercise in creativity, and often hilarious.

My favorite monster is not on the list.

Human. They are the most devious, cunning, deceitful, treasonous, greedy, selfish, and villainous creatures in existence.

Edited to add: when you positively have to kill everything on the planet, humans most certainly do a better job than the terrasque.

Golems, undead and demons are my favorites because I never have to explain how they've survived in the dungeon for 1000 years with no food source or why they wanted to attack you the moment they met you.

Best monster I ever ran was the striga - a homebrew lycanthropic-esque undead-esque creature of Polish legend. I stole mercilessly from the Witcher to create it.

Best part for the DM: Dragged the bloodied gnome off into the night.

Best part for the players: Striga leaps through window on rainy night. Invoker unleashes readied attack blasting it back out window for 2d10 fall damage.

I wanted to do a WereToad

It was going to be based on the main premise that the bad guy was Hypno Toad (Futurama link) and the power that WereToads have over other creatures aside from mobility and jumping is hypnotism type attacks (such as dazing or forced attack vs ally)... it was throwing the convention of a beast type creature (Rat, Tiger, Wolf, Boar) out of the mix and throwing in a ... TOAD!

Unfortunately the MMs have no toads, a few frogs and bullywug types but no toads. I gave up on the idea as I couldnt get a good story to work with it but may revisit it.

Lycanthrope is a lovely class of monster, it allows you to use your imagination to pick any animal type creature and mash them up with a human to get a Were[enter name here].
