First Post
Now that the series is in it's third season and we've seen characters grow quite a bit, I think it's time for a Favorite thread.

I used imdb.com to determine which ones made it into the poll. Picked the first ten and added the Battlestar Galactica itself.

If you think anyone else is your favorite please say so and tell us why. I know for a fact that many people liked Billy a lot, who isn't in the poll. Plus, I wish I had put Felix in there, alas, he didn't make the cut.

-Battlestar Fanyboy (not the hardcore type)

Edit: I understand that with the Cylons it's a bit tricky because there are several different ones. But, if you will, identify the one you liked the most.

Baltar.

He's as complex of a charcater as it gets. His genius commands respect, but he's still in many ways weak and flawed. You can be rooting for him, laughing at him, feeling sorry for him, or wishing his death depending on the episode. He encapsulates many aspects of the show, including the science/religion conflicts and the flaws of humanity. And he's simply the most entertaining performer.

As a character, I just have to go with Adm. Adama.
But if you want to go with actor, the fellow who plays Saul Tigh I feel has the most talent.

The show has so many wonderfully written, well acted characters it's a really hard call. . .

But as somebody who grew up on watching original Galactica, I have to give the nod to Dr. Gaius Baltar.

They took a stereotypical two-dimensional mustache-twirling comic-book type villain from the original series and made him into something so much more meaningful and complicated. He's not an evil man (well, in a D&D alignment sense he might be selfish enough to count as "Evil", but he isn't malevolent), even if he is the biggest human antagonist on the show (Ellen Tigh and Tom Zarek for runners up there though), he's an absolute genius, but deeply flawed, and on some level he wants to do the right thing, but he's not quite sure what it is.

If I absolutely had to choose one character, then I go for Tom Zarek. Mostly because I'm not quite sure if he's a terrorist or a freedom fighter, a hero or a villain. I suspect the answer is "all of the above".

However, probably my favourite aspect of the show is the interaction between Adama and Roslin, representing the military and the citizenry respectively. It's particularly interesting when they're at odds, as we then have two LG characters opposed to one another.

As a contemporary of the original series (and having loathed it at the time), I am amazingly happy with the new series. One of the aspects that I love with it is that there are no pure "good guys" or "bad guys". Even the best of them have their (obvious) shortcomings and even Baltar has his good sides. Now that is good writing!

As it is, I'll vote for Starbuck, but Baltar is pretty close on that vote. Both are amazingly complex and compelling characters.
