Your favorite "villain" race and why?

A Cranium Rat Swarm. Nothing stranger than having your players work through a dungeon after clearing up a plot to destabalise the country only to discover that it was caused by... a bunch of freaking rats. :D

I love illithids. And with the new 1/2 illithid rules, my love of them goes even deeper... 1/2 illithid ogremage... someone pinch me...

Yes, please don't mention humans...that would be bad-wrong.

Badong, even.

(Just because they're the best evil villains EVAR, doesn't mean we should bring them up. Oh no. Not humans.) :D

Isn't that ever? Without any "a" whatsoever?

Anyway, as I didn't say (because I didn't mention humans), Humans don't count cause we're humans ourselves. Logically, every other humanoid or intelligent race is some human aspects amplified (like drow and sadism, orcs and brutality...) Whatever you want to du, you can do it with a human, too. And everyone knows it. So I don't even bother to mention them.

Best D&D monster race? Nazis.
Keep the politics out, please

Personally, I don't like orcs, goblins and the like for villains. Enemies - sure, but no villains. A real villain must be an intelligent, scheming bastard with style, not just someone who can cause damage with the PC's. Orcs and Goblinkin are out, as are Giants and the like - at least usually. With a villain, strength isn't everything, he needs subterfuge and control.

My favorite? The long-overlooked umber hulks. They look like beasts, but they're intelligent. Also, their burrowing gives them extreme mobility despite their low speed.

Ah, I long for the days when the party allied themselves with the NE umber hulk adept to overthrow their mutual enemy...

It's amazing what you can come up with using a thesaurus and a box of 128 Crayolas. I'm just sorry the Burnt Sienna Leviathan didn't make the cut. The umber hulk looks like a cross between a stag beetle and Jesse Ventura (or, in more recent incarnations, a cross between an African harvester termite and Crispin Glover): a big bipedal insect with those weird insect clampy jaws and claws and fingers and bleh. It has the power to confuse onlookers, which is a power more D&D monsters should have. "So this is, what? A perfectly round bird with five legs? I don't get it. What kind of monster is OW MY HIT POINTS!"

(Nicked from The Book of Ratings, naturally.)

NARLETHS! dont forget narleths...
Oh yes! Sorry! Almost forgot those little buggers. Wouldn't want to be accused of not liking Narleths. Cause I do! ;) Like Narleths!

Great little spider guys. ESPECIALLY when you put them together with driders. Nasty, nasty combo! :)
