Your greatest level span in a campaign?

From the looks of everybody else's responses, my campaign is slow as slugs crawling through molasses.

Not necessarily, as others have already pointed out.

We've made it from 1st to 16th, but it's taken nearly 3 years to do so! We play about once every 4-6 weeks (we'd like to play more often, but our schedules are awful), for about 5-6 hours at a pop.

Right at 40 level span for my current campaign over 5+ years time. Started at 1st and most of the remaining three out of 6 starting chracters are about to hit or have hit 40th level. This campaign started right before 3E came out and was converted over once we had the first books.

I am genuinely curious: what in the world challenges you at level 40? Personally having trouble with the complexity of level 10 characters, I literally cannot get my head around remembering all relevant details of a level 40 PC! Are your games mostly social/pureroleplaying? Or do you fight entire armies? :)

Well, lessee. Largest levl span.

1-5, that' four levels.

6-10, that's also four levels.

I guess that's the biggest span for me. Each of these took about 6 months as well, so that's about 6 weeks per level, but we didn't play that often.

My first 3.0 game went from 1st to 13th, until a DM mistake led to a TPK. But none of the other players wanted to "undo" the mistake, so we started over at 5th level.

My main Living Greyhawk character has earned over 104,000 experience, but only has 50,000 right now (five deaths in 13 months).

My plan for the game I run now is to start the characters at 5th level (we're having our second session tomorrow) and go to 20th.

I was in a few different 3.0E campaigns - they ranged from 4 level span to 8 level spans - and would have gone further, had not I inturrupted them with law school.

Now I'm taking my last exam tomorrow, and I'll be free to game again... I'm going to aim for 20...

It's interesting to see what levels other players have reached, and how often they play. The highest level I've reached is 13th - but that's in a short-term game that we started at 12th level about 6 weeks ago.

For a long-term game the highest level achieved is 9th, in a campaign that just ended April 1st. We'd been playing that one for nearly 7 years, but the first 6 years were in 2e AD&D. We usually played about twice a month, 4 to 6 hours per session, but there was a long period where we only played every couple of months due to scheduling conflicts.

I admit I find it hard running a 13th level character, but I think that's partly because I haven't had the practice of running the character continuously over a longer period of time. We're starting a new campaign to take the place of the one that just ended, and it will be interesting to see how long we can keep it going. I can't really imagine playing the same character for years and years anymore - after a while I start thinking about something new to play and get bored with the old stuff. The GMs in our group all tend to be fairly non-lethal, so I don't often get a chance to roll up a new character for an ongoing campaign.

I am in awe... :)

Thanks...so am I at times, longest actual D&D campaign I've run ever. Most lasted a year to year and half with a span of maybe 10 levels tops.
