Your original die

Still have my original set of purple "I gotta mark-'em with crayon" dice. They currently live in a humongous bucket 'o' dice (thanks you for the idea, Alan Hench!) that is for the use of anyone who doesn't have their own.

Still have my chits, too.

I admire anyone who has played for 20 years or more and still has any of the origianl dice. I got my first set in 1982 with my Basic D&D box set, and I think they were blue. However, I don't think I have any dice that are more than 5 or 6 years old. I have moved a number of times, carried them to countless gaming sessions at countless different houses, and to top it off, I live in a house that I swear EATS dice.

If you have even one of your first set left after more than 20 years, my hat's off to you.

My first poly dice came out of the Lords of Creation boxed set, from Avalon Hill: a hideous purple d10, and a hideous green d20, both uninked. I used paint for minis to ink them by hand and then -- bad idea! -- sprayed them with matte sealant. I still have them, and they still look terrible. ;)

My first full set was an Armory pack of transparent light purple dice, which came with a purple dice bag. The dice bag and most of the dice are long gone, claimed by cats and about a dozen moves since then (about 16 years ago). I still have the remnants of this set, and I can pull them out of a collection of around 1,300 dice by sight. ;)

Ahhh, fond memories. :)

Couldn't do that... I've only played for about 5 years, not 20+ like some people here.

My first gaming die was a d12 which I still have (I lost a d12 in my crystal set so it found a home there). My first set of new dice was from Gamma World 3rd ed. It had 4 Gamma Green d6s and 2 GG d10. I somehow added a 5th matching d6, they all tend to roll high which is nice for generating characters or playing d6 Star Wars. ;) The last die I acquired was a huge d12 from an old wargame so I guess my dice collection has come full circle.

Before or after entering the wonderful world of roleplaying? If you mena before, I'd have to say that it's be my pirate six siders. They are black and they have skull and crossbones in the place of the ones. Right when I got into roleplaying I purchased three full sets of dice: a red set, a white set and a blue set. Patriotic colors, yes. Although I didn't think about it at the time Each set came with a d4, 3d6, d8, d10, d12 and a d90. I lost those dice about a year after I bought them.

I'm young. My dice are only about fiveish years old - the pack from "The Adventure Begins Here!". My blue dice rolls like anything.

Aren't most D4's nasty little caltrops? Mine are. God, I stepped on one whilst walking around in bare feet in my garage.

Lets just say the neighbours got the literal eloquence of a literature teacher born working-class. :D

I have no idea how many of my original dice remain. I know the d20 is gone, because it shattered after three months of fairly heavy usage.

I do still have one of my d10's from the Top Secret boxed set though.

My first was an orange D20 I had to ink in with a grease pencil. I lost it.

A friend of mine who started playing in 1974 has the best story though.

"In those days -you couldn't even BUY dice. So we made em!"

His first d4 was a wooden one he made in shop class. It's about the quality of a die you'd think a 12 year old would make in the mid-70s. The numbers were drawn on with a blue Bic pen.

I think he has a wooden d8 as well.

He lived in Calgary at the time. There simply WERE no dice to buy.

But he still has it. I think it's his most treasured die. And well it should be.

Not quite the Roman D20 from the first century that Christie'ssold for a bundle, but still pretty damn cool :)
