Following Montroya theory, the heroes obtain the permission to case the warehouse. Montroya does his best to locate the heart of drakness. Not even knowing what it is supposed to look like, he trusts in his senses and his ability to detect the absence of the light of Apoli.

Religion check

DC 25 : find it
DC 20 : Know where it is within an aread of 20-30 crates and the government accepts to dump them all at the bottom of the ocean or some other containment measure you propose.
DC 15: Know where it is within an area of 200 crates but gnash your teeth as the government refuse to destroy them all.

DC 20 or more will grant a minor quest bonus.

As Montroya conduct is search with the assistance of Andrec and Jarel-Karn, distrubing rumors reach their ears. Guards of the warehouse tell them that Rinch is already back. What are his plans? They need to track him fast.

[sblock=OOC]Sorta a skill challenge.

The target DC is 17.

The approach, the skill used and the skill results will determine how favorably you approach Rinch's lair.[/sblock]

Montroya closes his eyes, opening his mind to the Apoli's strength. The deva walks to the western corner of the warehouse, and stands the shadow of a tall stack of crates. Here.

[sblock=Religion]religion (1d20+12=29) Found it! I'll let Mal describe it.[/sblock]

Hearing the rumors with the Heart in hand, thinks back to his experience with Rinch. Would he come after The heart? Montroya speaks his own idea. "Rinch would want this back, let us lure him to us, with the The Heart."

[sblock=ooc]Insight to see if luring Rinch into an ambush with The Heart would work. insight (1d20+10=25) [/sblock]

Jarel-karn starts to questions the guards about Rinch location or there gang, and try to see if there isn't anyone else who could know, but he has been in this city for a few days only, so he found himself a bit helpless in such condition.

[SBLOCK=OOC]Streetwise (1d20+2=6) Big miss... but even with Arcana, his best skill, he would have failed a DC17 with that roll...[/SBLOCK]

Tearing through crates after crates, Montroya finds what he was looking for. His blood runs cold when he discovers, simply wrapped in linens, a tablet, aproximately 8 inches by 13. It is made of a black metal, seemingly ageless and indestrucible. White symbols appears on the surface. It is unclear what method was used; maybe etching. Yet it is as if the tablet had simply been created that way, had always born these two ancient runes. Their meaning is unknown to Montroya but they seem foreboding.

Now, what to do with it?

[sblock=OOC]
Montroya: Oh! What a good idea to track Rinch and how unfortunate that I can't use it. Normally I improvise a lot in my adventures and I'd just run with your trap idea. But for reasons that will become apparent as the story unfold, Rinch can't come to you right now. He is busy. You need to track down his lair.

Of the three options, Streetwise was the most logical one. The fact the roll is so low just mean you'll have been bumbling a bit as you were tracking down Rinch and his men heard you were coming.

PS: The 'best' solution I had envisioned was simply remembering the young man you had captured in the very first fight and that you had interrogated. He had been very forthcoming with information and Andrec treated him more kindly that he had any right to hope for in the circumstances. He'd have told you were the lair was.

Montroya initially wants to try to lure Rinch thanks to the Heart of Darkness but before he can enact a plan, a tall, powerful man with a gray beard and an elaborate golden full plate armor shows up. A keeper of light. How have they heard so fast about the discovery?

-''Greetings, fellow believer. It seems you have discovered something that a fiend believes to be the Heart of Darkness. Whether he is correct or not remains to be seen, but I would ask that you relinquish the artefact in our posession so that we can ascertain the authenticity and potential dangers involved. I have been authorized to reward you with the content of this purse.''

[sblock=OOC]Unless Montroya makes a fuss about the HoD, the Keepers are rather grateful for his efforts. I'll eventually get off my butt and make a wiki entry about them. You could note them on your wikisheet as owing a favor.

Either way, 300gp seems in order.

Meanwhile, Jarely is also investigating, for the most part grabbing thugs by the collar and shaking them until they give usable information. He has dicovered the possible location of Rinch's headquarters. One of them, anyway. Given the ruckus he raised as he beat up half a dozen goons accross the city in search of this information, Jarel suspects he would need to move fast if there is any hope to catch some evil-doers still at this lair, hidden in the sewers of the docks.

[sblock=OOC]If informed, the authorities are dubious. They don't think Rinch is really immortal. As far as they are concerned he is dead. While diplomacy coupled with recent fame could eventually get the bureaucracy moving, it would take a few days.

Yep, that excuses 101 as to why the heroes are going into the lair alone instead of with a squad of guards. ;) [/sblock]

[sblock=OOC]As soon as your ready. You have an extra 100gp each and some of you already have gold so I f you want to buy something, now would be a good time.

Can't speak for the others, but I'm ready, let's go! There's nothing I can think of that I can afford and don't already have. [/sblock]
