    Mutants in London

*Brushes the dust off his ENWorld account* The setting is London in the not too distant future. Charles Xavier (of Marvel Comics fame) is in his twilight years, and has worked with a number of his former students to create a new mutant university in the greatest old city of the United Kingdom...

    In Praise of Cheetos

Remember your first games. Maybe you played in the basement. Maybe you played in the school library. Maybe in the local gaming store. Your brother had you try it, or you got drawn in because you were there for Magic cards. Were you in high school? In middle school? Did you get roped in once you...

    Building a Legend

Just a small feat tree to represent heroic deeds, and how they affect your reputation and adventuring career. Fantastic Deed Prerequisites: The character must have performed a deed of note that the public is aware of. This need not have been for the public's good, merely noteworthy. Rogues are...

    Flavors of Sorcery

Sorcerers have a lot of potential for different plot reasons to have their powers. For example:You're part of a bloodline - Someone in your family tree bumped uglies with one of the stranger denizens of your campaign world. They've made a mint off of it in the meantime, and if you hadn't shown...

    Fear and Loathing in Shadowdale

We were somewhere around the Dalelands on the edge of the forest when the pipeweed began to take hold. I remember saying something like, "I feel a bit lightheaded; maybe you should take the reins..." And suddenly there was a terrible roar all around us and the sky was full of what looked like...

    Hardbounditis

WotC most definitely has it. White Wolf seems to have caught it as almost all the new World of Darkness books are hardbound even if they're slender enough to be paperback. What do you think of it? Does it provide a higher-quality product, or is it just an excuse to charge more?

The klaxons blared in the creeping fog of the neon demon night...

The Mother of Atrocities smiled a whore's grin, her scrabbling, mewling children sweeping as a pale tide through the alley. The Tiktokman chimed thrice, and was silent. Dollars for dinars, dinars for deutschmarks, deutschmarks for dirham. A dead raven was impaled on the subway tracks. The...

    At last! Yugoloths!

*hugs his Monster Manual II* It was weird enough seeing the choice of Yugoloths they gave you in the Manual of the Planes, after they'd been passed up in the Monster Manual. How sad is it that it's taken this long for Arcanaloths and Yagnoloths to get an official conversion?

Archdevils and Demon Princes as deities.

Faiths and Pantheons lists Orcus, Baphomet, and Pazrael as demons who achieved Lesser Deity status, and Gargauth as an Archdevil who became a demigod. This directly contradicts the statements in Deities and Demigods, as well as what Monte has said. Discuss.

Call of Cthulhu d20/Dieties and Demigods Relative Power Levels

I posted this over at Nutkinland while these boards were down. Now that we're back up over here, I figured I'd cross-post. Unfortunately, WotC did the two books rather wonkily, so they're not compatible on all fronts. For example, Call of Cthulhu uses Challenge Rating rather than Divine Rank...

    Question for Creature Catalog/Necromancer Games

Will the Tome of Horrors (as I believe the new title is) contain the missing Daemons/Demons/Devils and Archdaemons/Demon Lords/Archdevils from the Creature Catalog, or has WotC laid claim to them? It'd just kick butt to see Anthraxus or Orcus actually in print again.

    Yeenoghu not open content?

In his recent ENWorld chat, Chris Pramas laments that Yeenoghu isn't open content. However, I recently picked up the print version of Monte's adventure, the Demon God's Fane. In the appendix on the title antagonist, Yeenoghu is mentioned in passing. I know Orcus is open content because his...

d20 Publishing and the Public Domain

Recently, on this board, I read a long and drawn out discussion of how WotC should make a book about Dis in the Nine Hells. Here's the thing, though, the Nine Hells, so long as you don't call them Baator, is fair game for d20 publishing. Dis, specificially, is public domain because it's from...

Could WotC Put the Genie Back in the Bottle?

A lot of worry in the air lately, but two problems are foremost in my mind. One, could Hasbro actually yank the OGL, or is it too late to withdraw it? If Hasbro can't yank the OGL, is it possible they could revise it to the point that all present d20 products are in violation of it?
