I don't see how you can even make that stretch without ignoring all of the actual facts of the situation.

Probably this. Roy asked him to research Mass Death Ward at the end of the last book so they can fight Xykon more effectively, and this seems like the perfect opportunity since he has a death cleric and a fully-stocked library at his disposal.

This came up on the OOTS message board, too. The main problems with the idea are 1.) he doesn't have black speech balloons, 2.) he's been seen walking down a hallway that was exposed to sunlight, and 3.) he worships a Neutral god of death (who traditionally eschew undead as abominations).

What's funny about this statement is that the armor changed color from the last strip Haley was in. It's lighter and paler than it used to be. Uh, he JUST reduced the text size back in #673. If it goes any smaller, it will be impossible to read (I know of some people on the official forum who...

The Oracle told Roy that Belkar would die before the end of the year. Roy is saying that there are seven weeks left in the year. Now, that doesn't mean that they actually WILL beat Xykon within that time, but since they want Belkar's daggers as added muscle, they're going to try.

I think he thinks his Afterlife was "locked in" at the moment of final death and nothing he does will change it. I also happen to think that he's wrong, and he's going to do all of this only to end up banished to Limbo or someplace due to his posthumous actions.

This is stuff all we needed to know (where everyone is, who knows what about which), so it's not strictly unnecessary the way filler would be. But it is sort of cramming as much information into one strip as possible in order to get it out of the way. If anything, I would say it's the equal...

If it was a Wish or Miracle, it could have been cast as "Send them wherever they want to go," which would indeed leave them with the OOTS and Hinjo.

Someone on the official boards pointed out this obvious-in-retrospect foreshadowing: first panel.

Yes, but the operative word there is "gate", not "rift". Right now, they have zero gates, and they need one gate. So they will eventually need to leave Azure City, because a big open rift is of no use to them at all. The only thing that has been preventing them leaving is Redcloak's...

I don't know, it seemed fine to me. It's a moderate victory in the middle of the story, pulled off by one PC and an NPC. Frankly, considering how badly this scene started out for V, this is practically a miracle. It would have been just as anticlimactic for the phylactery to fall into the rift...

It's a pretty good assumption that Xykon has warded his phylactery against scrying, so he'll have to locate it the old-fashioned way: hobgoblins in hip waders. That should keep Team Evil in the city weeks longer while the OOTS gets a head start on the way to Girard's Gate. And that's good for...

O-Chul admitted that Charisma is his dump stat, as a result of having started out as a fighter. On the other hand, O-Chul is so awesome, maybe a +5 IS his dump stat...

I think most people are assuming the bird's death will be at Xykon's hands, not the Snarl's. The question will be when Xykon notices it: before or after the bird is above the rift?

    OotS #658 is up!

Anyone want to lay odds on the Xykon vs. the familiar? As I see it, V and O-Chul need to occupy Xykon for at least 3 rounds in order for Blackwing to get to the rift. If he notices the bird before that, though, I think the bird is probably toast.

Unless Redcloak's sanctuary is someplace within the city. Creatures can teleport within the area of the Cloister, just not into it from outside. The strip is not coming to a close, no.

Everyone says stuff like this, but remember it's been established that no one in the Order of the Stick knows anything about liches! Several times. And since liches are undead, they require a Knowledge (Religion) check to identify any of their immunities. Vaarsuvius almost certainly does not...

    OotS #653

Look at the second-to-last panel: V is being affected by the Mind Fog after the Mind Blank is dispelled. Note the statement that he feels woozy, and the telltale little orange bubbles similar to those drawn when someone is poisoned. That's because Mind Fog sticks around for a while, and V...

    OotS #653

I think this comic actually answers that: They need to get Redcloak and Tsukiko to turn on Xykon, thus denying him their respective tactical advantages, while taking advantage of their own teamwork. Without Tsukiko's Mind Fog and Redcloak's advice, V's soul splices last long enough for him/her...

OOTS 652: No Respect for the Wicked

No, you're both misinterpreting this. When you gain a negative level, you automatically lose your highest level remaining spell slot. The splices gained 2d4 negative levels right away, so an average of 5 lost spell slots. Since epic spell slots are the most powerful in the game, they are lost...
