D&D 5E Something I find tacky

Something I find tacky is WOTC declaring it's DM appreciation month and then suggesting that we celebrate this by buying stuff from them.

That's just in bad taste.

I find it bad that they made it Febuary and not March, since March 4th is DM Appreciation Day.

DM Appreciation day started here on EnWorld over a decade ago and has grown to be a pretty wide spread thing with web stores having week long sales, and people having players run one shots so the DM can have fun on that side of the screen for a week.

Here is a link the original thread, http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?32485-March-Fourth-for-GM-s-Day%21%21.

GM's day has a website with some pretty funny comic panels on it, http://gmsday.com/.

WoTC did put up an article about 28 ways to celebrate DM month, most don't involve purchasing things from them.

EDIT: sad side note, I also like March 4th as the day to remember DM's because it is a good day to remember the big DM in the sky, Gary Gygax passed away on March 4th 2008, six years after that thread on EnWorld was started.

As apposed to any appreciation month where you are suggested to buy stuff for the person being appreciated? They're only suggesting that you get their stuff for the DM since it's their stuff. You are free to buy anything for your DM to appreciate them.

Saying that it's tacky is like saying that it's tacky for the flower shop to suggest that you buy flowers for someone.

Agreed, it's like a maker of lawnmowers saying "Father's Day is coming up! Why not get your father a lawnmower as a gift?"

it seems like most of their celebration efforts were focused on a few cool podcast episodes as well as a pretty awesome DM panel thing over twitch. this hardly seems tacky to me. people love to hate on WotC, but keep in mind all the stuff we've gotten for their little holiday. the second support group video was even kinda funny.
