Morrus

Morrus is the owner of EN World and EN Publishing, creator of the ENnies, creator of the What's OLD is NEW (WOIN), Simply6, and Awfully Cheerful Engine game systems, publisher of Level Up: Advanced 5th Edition, and co-host of the weekly Morrus' Unofficial Tabletop RPG Talk podcast. Jeremy Crawford Reveals All About The Cavalier From Xanathar's Guide
So the Cavalier appears in Xanathar's guide and it is a subclass inspired by a character class that goes all the way back to first edition D&D. The Cavalier in first edition D&D; appeared in the original book "Unearthed Arcana." So, in a way, when we were doing our "Unearthed Arcana" series of subclasses we thought "Well, of course, in a series named after the book, 'Unearthed Arcana' we should have the Cavalier in it." Although, we didn't end up including the acrobat which was another option in that book." says Crawford to D&D Beyond.
Jeremy Crawford Talks Xanathar's Horizon Walker
In this video for D&D Beyond, Crawford said "So the Horizon Walker is a ranger subclass that is all about drawing on the magic of the multiverse. So many other rangers are very much tied to beasts or hunting particular prey in the natural environment. The Horizon Walker in a way, the camera pans back and it's about the whole multiverse. This is a ranger whose natural environment is the whole cosmos, and they're drawing on its magic and in the process, they're able to teleport around, they're able to draw on that planar magic to deal more damage with their attacks."

"The Inquisitive subclass in Xanathar's guide is in many ways all about playing essentially Sherlock Holmes, this character who is fantastic at finding clues, discerning when other people are being deceitful, and then using that fact against them because the Inquisitive's abilities having to do with sneak attack are much more psychological than our other rogue types", says Crawford in a video for D&D Beyond.

D&D Reader App Coming This Fall? [UPDATED]
Many people have been asking for official D&D PDFs, and WotC has been addressing the need for electronic reference materials at the table in various ways. According to Mashable, WotC is releasing a D&D Reader App this fall. It's not a PDF, but it's basically a D&D-specific Kindle-esque app for iOS and Android. Mashable reports that "Each book is broken up into different sections. So with, say, the Player's Handbook, you can tap on little thumbnails in your library to check out the introduction, a step-by-step guide to character creation, a rundown of races, individual sections for each character class, equipment, and all the other pieces that, together, form the D&D Player's Handbook."
Numenera 2: The Kickstarter Is Live!
It's always an event when Monte Cook Games launches a Kickstarter. As a company, they have mastered the art of crowdfunding, with several well-executed, extremely successful Kickstarters under their belt - the original Numenera in 2012 raised over half a million dollars, and in total the company has run 11 high-profile, slick campaigns. The latest promises to be more of the same - Numenera 2: Discovery & Destiny has launched!

Lions & Tigers & Owlbears... Oh, my! Here's a Preview of 13th Age's Bestiary 2!
The kind folks over at Pelgrane Press have sent along a massive preview of their 300-page second official Bestiary for 13th Age (which you can buy from their website), which debuted at Gen Con as one of their best sellers. This enormous preview includes the table of contents, the introduction, and the Great Ghoul and its minions which were designed by Cthulhu Confidential's Ruth Tillman and developed by Rob Heinsoo. "More than 250 individual stat blocks appear in 51 entries, along with with story hooks, icon relationships, customizable campaign variants, and advice on creating exciting battles."

Starfinder Starfinder's Sutter Leaves Paizo; Butler Joins (In A Different Role)

I don't normally report on staff changes at RPG companies unless it's something major. I feel like a couple of Paizo staff updates are worth mentioning though. First, James Sutter, co-creator of Pathfinder, and creative director of Starfinder, is leaving Paizo to write full-time (although he says he will still freelance for Paizo). Don't worry - it's all amicable, as he reports in a blog post at Paizo's website. Secondly, I'm informed by Paizo staff that Paizo has hired TSR's Jim Butler, who helped spearhead Alternity, and ran Bastion Press in the early 2000s, as Vice President of Marketing and Licensing.
Tomb of Annihilation Is Here - What Do You Think?
Today's the day - WotC's latest Dungeons & Dragons adventure, Tomb of Annihilation, is out! Head on down to your friendly (or unfriendly) local (or not so local) gaming (or comic) store and pick up your copy. Alternatively, if you use a virtual table top, it's available for Fantasy Grounds and Roll20.

Is Evil Hat Republishing TSR's Star Frontiers?
Last year, Sasquatch Game Studio announced that it had acquired the trademark for TSR's old Alternity science-fiction game. At the time, it was mentioned that they did not have the Star*Drive, Dark*Matter, Gamma World, StarCraft Adventures, or Star Frontiers, properties owned by WotC. This may be changing, though - because Evil Hat Productions has applied for the trademark to Star Frontiers.

Frank Mentzer Reveals More About World of Empyrea
Frank Mentzer's Worlds of Empyrea Kickstarter has been announced for Monday, 2nd October. I initially covered this a few weeks ago -- he is planing a 5E and Red Box compatible setting based on the same world as Greyhawk, and is inviting a group of TSR-era artists to join the project.
