This week, I look at some of the RPG Kickstarters and GameOnTabletop campaigns that end by June 18th. The number of campaigns has increased and the results are overwhelmingly positive as the Kicktraq charts graph. While this list is composed heavily of RPGs, I include one stock art project and link a gaming convention planning to launch post-pandemic.
What would improve Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering’s newest crossover, Mythic Odysseys of Theros? How about known RPG creators rolling out an adventure for the setting via the DMsGuild. To support Wizards of the Coast’s newest campaign setting, Steffie de Vaan, Cat Evans, and crew are rolling out Masks of Theros, and Steffie offered to talk about the project and why this world...
Finding your way in an unfamiliar world can be a tricky affair, but today EN5ider offers a suite of clever magic maps that are sure to do more for adventurers than simply help them get around.
This entry in Mythological Figures is going way, way back, providing a build for Gilgamesh’s best buddy. If you’ve ever heard the myth then you know I mean the beast-man made from clay, that fellow who can’t be kept down: Enkidu!
Larian Studios posted a teaser trailer for Baldur's Gate III on Twitter, showing off both apparent cutscene and gameplay footage.
Shadows of Esteren, the highly awarded RPG (four ENnie Awards in 2013 and 2016) from Studio Agate, has a Kickstarter to create their first artbook, Shadows of Esteren: Dark Romanticism. Included in the campaign, they’re reprinting the core rulebook as “a Kickstarter Special Edition with a cover from Yoann Lossel. A new reward tier, $50 ‘RPG: CORE BOOK AND BONUSES’, allows [backers] to get it...
This week, I look at crowdfunding projects from Kickstarter and IndieGoGo that end by June 11th. While the list of crowdfunding campaigns is not as high as last week, it’s still respectable. All of the projects are d20 based with several for 5e and Pathfinder as well as Starfinder and OSR.
Great concepts for characters that make use of more than one class are aplenty but as a campaign reaches higher levels these builds lose effectiveness—that's a problem that today's issue of EN5ider aims to fix!
Today Epic Monsters is taking a look at the working man’s man of steel, a corporatist product of fakelore from the Steel City that never quite found its way entirely into the realm of America’s mythology. If you already know who it is, you get a gold star because this one is pretty obscure: Joe Magarac!
Herodotus once wrote that during a time of great hardship, an entire nation survived by turning to gaming. Can tabletop role-playing games perform a similar role during a pandemic?
If GMs (and game designers, and gamers) understand “the odds” they will be able to make better choices and understand why some things happen in their games - and some don’t.
This week I look at crowdfunding projects from Kickstarter, GameOnTabletop, and IndieGoGo that end by June 4th. The number of RPG-related projects available jumped from prior weeks to twenty including ten Dungeons & Dragons Fifth Edition-related RPGs as well as two RPG news-related campaigns. As you’ll see in the charts, the numbers continue to be steady for many projects.
Thanks to a great response from the community, we can bring you some more reviews from the DM’s Guild. Today we have three smaller offerings. One of these is an enhancement for your campaign, while the other two are adventures that can be set in your campaign. The creators provided EN World with copies of their creations for us to review. If you have a current or upcoming DM’s Guild product...
No, not the kind you're thinking of—this issue of EN5ider is an awesome supplementary adventure to weave into your existing campaign, not a reason to go to the doctor.
Today Mythological Figures is after one of Britain’s most enduring characters—she gives King Arthur the sword Excalibur, woos Merlin, and raises Lancelot du Lac. I can be referring only to the Lady of the Lake: Nymue!
Changes in Dungeons & Dragons' various editions have ranged from the incremental to the epic, shaking up the game's sales along with its playerbase. There is evidence that Wizards of the Coast is following a new model in which there are no more editions, just updates and backwards compatibility. It's a model long touted by the software industry, and for an idea what the future might hold we...
