D&D 5E (IC) Scourge of Daggerford

Legend
The hobgoblin snorted. He was defiant and unafraid to die, but he said in broken common, "we hear you kill Shorgg. No Shorgg, no Host. Udder clans leave. I think, kill you, I be General! Maglubiyet be pleased wid me. Reward Krugg! We burn workhouse. Smoke you out!"

Andrik was horrified at the idea that the workhouse was burning. He was a weaver, and his loom was in there. If it was true that the goblin horde had disbanded, a bucket-brigade might save something, anything, of Julkoun's most important industry.

"Where are the other Julkounians?"

Dandin had heard about the workhouse burning, he thought. And while he was worried for the city's industry, he was more worried about the other captives.

Legend
Titus was groggy. It *had* been a long day, and it was late. But his friends had woken him and helped him inside in case there were more goblins out there. Averiel went behind the bar and found a dwarven whisky that had not yet been stolen by goblins - perhaps it was favoured by the Red Wizard and they dared not touch it. At any rate, Averiel opened the bottle and sniffed it. She scrunched her nose in disdain, but she poured some in a small tin cup, drank it, then poured another and brought it to Titus.

"Here." she said, "That was quite the task, taking on five of them alone. Well done."

The hobgoblin answered Dandin, "Dey sold t'slavers!"

He laughed a cold raspy wheeze and added, "Load on boats 'ey be! Bloodwhite Banner get dem."

The goblin Spogg piped up in fear, "Bloodwhites here awreddy?"

The hobgoblin shot him a look and the goblin shut his mouth trembling.

Titus took the cup gratefully, downing its contents. “It was that or let them flank us. I only wish I could have done more.”

At least it was magical sleep this time, rather than nearly dying, he thought.

Legend
"Bloodwhite Banner is Hobgoblin Slavers." said the hobgoblin while the goblin kept quiet in fear. He did not elaborate, as if this information was enough for anyone.

Dandin studied the Hobgoblin, wondering how much more they could get out of him. "And where might the Bloodwhites be taking their slaves?"

Dandin

The hobgoblin shrugged. While he was not cooperative, and Dandin suspected that there was something more to be said, he felt that there was little chance of getting much further out of the stubbord brute.

Angis

Averiel poured Angis a tin, and the dwarf downed the dark liquid. Wiping an arm across his beard, he stomped out the front door. The hard-packed, dirt street was lit only by the fire of the workhouse. Clouds had moved in and a light rain had started. It wouldn't be enough to save the workhouse by itself, but it would help to prevent the fire's spread.

Angis moved along the side of the road to reconnoiter the area. There was no activity in the upper town, but as he peered down the wooden connecting ramp, he saw three goblins who struggled to set the ramp on fire with torches. Additionally, there were many torches moving about the docks, the old mill, and the town shrine. By their military precision, he was sure that they were hobgoblins. But they were escorting small groups of people - the townsfolk! - from the other two locations to the dock, where waited two riverboats. He estimated that there were no more than ten or twelve hobgoblins, and perhaps as many goblins in the lower city.

There were far more Julkounians - perhaps fifty to a hundred, depending on how many were in the boats and how many remained in the buildings. The hobgoblins were forced to take their time, moving no more than ten townsfolk at a time from their prison to the boats. They did not want to lose any valuable slaves.

The slavers had not yet departed.

Angis returned to the tavern, and gave Andrik the nod. It would take some time for the Julkounians to form a bucket brigade - time for the Doughty Daggerfordians to stage one last rescue effort. He wasn't sure how much of the Workhouse could be saved, but the other townsfolk could be rescued from the terrible fate of being sold into slavery.
