Pathfinder 1E IC - Tideruler: The Fall of Laholt

Alice kept her cool as Arduniel made his insinuations, and also kept her cool as the priestess defended her. Then, picking her words with care, she spoke.

"I was brought in by different people than you, but as far as I'm concerned, more eyes the better - if for no other reason than because whatever's behind this has less of a chance of killing us all if we have each other's backs, and the mystery getting solved means it's solved regardless of who solves it." Her tail plucked a bottle of water from her potion belts and she took it in hand, having a drink.

"Now yes, the people who hired us might not like each other, but if we don't work together to solve this, the bodies will be just as dead regardless of who's politically on top. So how about we put that aside and work together?"

DAXIO

As the others spoke, Daxio made sure to scan the throne room for magic, just in case.

Daxio's inquisitive habits reveal the throne's lingering aura. The agitated, hypnotic lines of magical incantations surround the throne, creating white, grey and blue waves that resemble a globe of sorts. Protective spells. At least three. They can isolate the occupant from all attacks for a small amount of time. Considering the pit that surrounds the throne, more than enough to react against grounded attackers; given the height of the roof, also enough to react to flying enemies.

She herself holds several objects, all glimmering as if painfully polished by dedicated serving hands. Those are divinely touch, no doubt, but their blessings are faint, almost shifting in nature. Clearly she has masqueraded her own protective wards, even though they cling to her visage and jewelry - perhaps suggesting the beauty Daxio had seen on her as he entered the hall.

ALICE

"Now yes, the people who hired us might not like each other, but if we don't work together to solve this, the bodies will be just as dead regardless of who's politically on top. So how about we put that aside and work together?"

"And, as expected, you are the one to bring balance to the matter." - she reassures Alice's speech. "Your talents might prevail where all else has failed, since they are grounded on empiricism and logics. A rare trait, I might add." - she looks around yet once. "A shame that Alanor and I couldn't agree on most things. But still, that does not mean I shall leave his long existenc be wasted by efforts of mischievous enemies."

EVERYONE

"I am willing to accept the aid of others.... Even humans..." - Gallena's eyes stab towards Zyara and Daxio. "And although Goliath's intentions aren't always straightforward, I'm inclined to believe that his intentions are sincere."

"There's one last person that might aid you in these affairs. When you are ready to begin, look for him at the Causeway, under the roof of the Beltane's Virtue. His knowledge of the underworld might be useful, should this plot prove to be a demonic scheme. There are others that fell ill as well. At least three might be of use right now. I can direct you towards them, if you wish. You can also go out and search the city as you prefer. I'll send one of our white owls with you. The creature will vouch for you and grant others' cooperation. Well, most of the others' cooperation, anyway." - she rises her eyebrows, a hint of suspicion in her eyes.

I plan on living forever. Or die trying.
Moss looks around the room and the hall while other talk. He keeps out of sight, trying to remain within earshot, but freely going further out ot explore counting on his companions to fill in the blanks. He soon returns to the room and goes out of the window, sending short message to the group.
"I'm out. Scouting the gathering. Shout if you need me."

OOC: Archon, anything interesting in the vicinity of the hall? If there are hidden casters/archers/threats - he would warn the group and remain close.

Daxio bowed to Galena again. “Your magnanimity is as great as your beauty,” he told the elven priestess. “We thank you for your permission to move about the city. It will help greatly in solving this problem that so vexes your people. Do not hesitate to call upon us if you need aid, lowly human though we may be.” He flashed her a dashing smile as he straightened up.

As the priestess turns away, Moss moves slightly, spreading his wings slightly to become visible to those at the front. He points toward the organizing peasants. Realizing they probably cannot see them from the ground he motions downward and small hand appears writing on the dust.
"The people gatherin. Prepared for trouble. Agents of the temple may turn the mob against us. Dangerous if the castle occupants need live people for the rituals. Be careful. Can any of you casters cast some communication spell on me? If I'm separated and hidden I don't like to reveal myself like this."

Arduniels eyes widen at the creature. He easily recognizes magic in question, but that dragon would live in this town and he is unaware of it...impossible! Someone should have seen it. Especially green one. But noting lack of reaction of his companions he concludes it is one of them and actually newcomer to the town.

OOC: Sorry, missed the change.

Zyara is surprised to find that her opinion of Daxio could sink even lower. The dragon-man also surprises her with his messages and Zyara looks around to see if some kind of ambush might be likely.

"We would appreciate if you could name the sick, Gallena. I know, or can easily find, them and maybe someone will say something relevant. And we can see who is at Beltanes. Who should we inquire about?" Arduniel just wants to get out of this superficially pleasant talk and do some real work.

Alice let herself smile a little at the compliment, even though she knew that a lot of smart people had come up with 'empirically proven' reasons why tieflings were the scum of the earth. Her least favorite was that the horns deformed the shape of the skull and therefore the brain, causing impure thoughts to flourish without the need for demonic influence. At least people who just hated her on sight were upfront about it...

"The Causeaway, hm? What can you tell us about the person we're going to meet there, and what sort of place it is? Rather not go off half-informed, after all."

MOSS

As the dragon leaves the confines of the castle, he takes flight and sees that the gathering down the road has doubled in size: now twelve individuals lie in wait, sprung around. Even though the postures are lighter, the expressions are still heavy.

Suddenly, Moss' instincts tell him to pull back and upwards. He jerks his body, moving swiftly, only to realize that the highest towers in the castle are now occupied by watchers. They remain hidden behind the very same branches that covered the lower areas, indistinct and denounced solely to Moss' acute senses. Their presence is faint, casting occasional shadows in between the ivies. Odds are they prepare for a potential attack.

The maneuver comes to Moss' advantage, though. Up above, he can see the areas beyond with ease. He meets a band of swallows and descends, approaching the gathering just as a line forms from the camp below. It seems they'll become quite the mob soon enough. Amidst them, it seems, a pair of elves speak in cryptic tones, casting lots and speaking against Gallena. "The gods no longer protect her!" - an elderly elf seems to speak while casting bones over a stone. "A'course, she has abandoned all reason!" - another says. If they are to be believed, some of them might be favored by the gods, and may even know a spell or two. Be as it may, the mass alone would be enough to cause some damage.

As for the heroes, no one seems to amass against them, neither outside nor inside. But tensions clearly arise...

ARDUNIEL

"We would appreciate if you could name the sick, Gallena. I know, or can easily find, them and maybe someone will say something relevant. And we can see who is at Beltanes. Who should we inquire about?"

"You are sure to know them, Arduniel, for they've shared more than one feast with you under the Festival of Lights. They are Meroveus the Snake, wise Mawdir and the healer, Morrigan. Meroveus is under the care of his fellow gnomes at the caves; Mawdir rests at the Hills of War, being tended by his maidens through the only means they know.... The last I heard of Morrigan, she was taken to the Sunken City, donned in the Nymph's collars and sheltered in their underwater grove." - her voice is still dramatic and authoritative.

"I am glad to see you through it, Arduniel. Maybe your care will help mend their souls... And if this doesn't affect their bodies as well, at least it might bring some comfort as their minds dwindle." - she pauses for only a moment, a scornful undertone in her voice - "And should the guilty party be uncovered, maybe it would be time to deal with the culprit... harshly." - her presumptions lead her eyes to rest upon the contours of runes.

ALICE

"The Causeaway, hm? What can you tell us about the person we're going to meet there, and what sort of place it is? Rather not go off half-informed, after all."

"He keeps to himself, mostly. People have taken to him, given his skills with a hammer. I've seen him fixing armor around. From time to time, people say, he shares details on a few trips, and corrects misdirected notion about the Underworld. How does he know it, I can't be sure. They call him the Bat, always clad in black. Try him out. He might be willing to help. His disposition towards the others has been gracious, so far."

"As for the causeway, it used to be a road that led north to the groves. After the rains sank the eastern areas of Alessia, it became one of the few paths to the northern sector to remain above the water. It is there that traders go to partake in the Fey Fair. You'll find the bazaar filled with distinct faces every day - some common, others... Not quite so." - she smiles defiantly, as if she took pride in the Causeway's existence. "Beware the manner of business you conduct there, though. The Green Knights are vigilant and they resent disorder."

DAXIO/ZYARA/ARANEL

She turns an affected gaze towards the others.

"I've often found you unwilling to contribute your share" - she glances at Aranel - "...but I'm glad to see that you've taken your kind more seriously. Since you've come to help, I will send word of your commitment back to your settlement. " - it almost seems as if she's trying to be nice, for once, but the impression soon fades. "A half-blood needs all the help it can get, after all. Also, I'll consider you responsible for the humans. See to it that they behave properly while within our frontiers." - she looks at both Daxio and Zyara. A second later, a white owl appears, perching upon the back of the throne. "Your escort is here. I assume your tasks are laid before you." - she rises clearly considering the conversation over.

"The culprit will be punished, don't worry. Just make sure you know who that is before punishing comences. Thank you for your time. Lead on, owl." Arduniel takes veiled references and threats in stride. He is not the one, but would people accept that? With his history of magic, his isolation until recently...who knows what evil can be wrought by persuassive power.

As they go out he asks of the group
"Before we go seeking these others, I would ask that we check on the gathering. If they try to force the castle to confront Gallena many will be hurt. Or dead. She holds power and the wards set are powerful. There is lots of fear and mistrust in the city at this time."
