Did the blogs section change ENWorld boards?

I don't really understand what you just said?

:D no prob.

I meant that there would be a new fourm, along side General RPG Discussion, General RPG Rules Discussion, Plots & Places and Board Games & CCGs. Call it Blog Updates. It would be in this list:

http://www.enworld.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=1

Everytime there is a new blog entry a new Fourm thread is created there by ENworlds server, it would have a link to the Blog entry and allow people to comment on the entry. Only the server could create new threads, not posters.

It would be a handy way of viewing new blog entries and a central place for discussion on it.

It was just a thought.

I like the idea of the blogs... but also agree it seems to fragment the community.

It seems to make everyone their own secular world, instead of a solitary place we all go to talk about stuff.

Shrug. It's not the blog's fault though it's just how people use them. I think after a while, once their new shiney wears off, the boards will pick back up, and the blogs will be used for th stuff they should be sued for, and the boards will be sued for the stuff they should be used for.

That would basically replicate the content you see by clicking on the blogs link. It shows new blog entries, etc. It's still one click away whether it looks like a forum or a blog latest entries page.

That link, as far as I understand you, does exactly what you've just described?

I don't read blogs. I don't read them in general and I don't read them here. There's no organization on a blog. With the forums if I want to read a 3e rules discussion, I know where to go. If I read a blog title "Challenging Myths" (as a completely random example) how do I know it is or is not relevant to my current desire to read some 3e rules discussion?

Also, I come to ENWorld to engage in conversation. I don't want articles. I don't want to be spoken to. I want to be spoken with.

The only form of article that I do care for is product reviews and they've missing for a long time. Even then, they could be implemented in a forum dedicated to product reviews with strict thread title requirements.

As for the front page, it has far too many links. The Wikipedia entry for information overload should point to the ENWorld front page. Not only does it have far too many links, they have no organization. There are groupings but there's no headings to attract your eye toward the groups that might interest you. I far preferred the smallish number of actual news items with short summaries over the current experiment. So I've stopped going to the front page. (Maybe I'll take further complaints about it to Meta. Or should I just blog about it?)

You know, I love the EnWiki. I think thats where houserules, new monsters, campaign storylines and gaming tipps, etc. should go, after having been discussed in the forums. It could be the "Product" of the ENWorld Community.

Blog posts about stuff like "10 reasons why 4e is not WoW" can as well go to general, IMO. People read them once, discuss them. done. But maybe time will make the community use the blogs more.

We have blogs?

Seriously, until this thread I didn't know people were that active in the blogging sections, I normally go right to the forums and ignore the news page.

I'm also of the opinion that it fractures things too much. A board is for discussion, not dissertation.

I've using the blogs for my reviews (to minor success) but other then that I really don't look at them. It seems there are some people almost spamming the blogs with many entries and that didn't endure me to trying to find ones that held interest to me.

What Stalker0 said.

My bookmark for ENWorld goes right to General RPG Forums page. I haven't looked at the ENWorld front page since I registered.

Maybe the new structure stretches this community a bit, and that's why the boards seem less interesting these days.

What do you think?
I think you should start a blog about it.

Cheers, -- N

PS: Okay, now I'm going to go check out the blogs section...
