I love RotJ. Loved watching Luke rescue everyone from Jaba. Loved the big space battle. Loved the climax between Luke and Vader.

But it's easy to see this is where Lucas started to be seduced by the power of the Schwartz. Dress it up however you please, taking the wookies of Endor and turning them into lovable little Ewoks was purely a marketing ploy. Their capering during the final scenes undermined the mood of gathering darkness that was taking place on the Death Star.

1> Ewoks.

2> There had been some unnatural glorification of a very minor character in the saga; Boba Fett, and some fanboys were very unhappy with the nature of his demise.

3> Silly Ghosts and Crappy Music at the end. I noted that they changed the music in that scene in the newer editions.

Ewoks and Vader's redemption.

The first should have been wookies and more "adventurous" less cutsie, and the second seemed to happen to quickly/easily. (then again, Anakin's fall in Episode III seemed to happen too quickly as well)

I agree that the Jabba's Palace rescue is the best part of the movie.

I wish I could see it with fresh eyes, unclouded by 20 years of love. But to me, the Ewoks are slapstick done right, and their silliness never intrudes into the very serious events of the battle between Vader and Luke.

The 'yub yub' song at the end was silly, and replacing that was probably the one revision in the Special Edition I liked.

And I still think they should have pulled off the mask to reveal James Earl Jones (!).

Ewoks, seriously, Ewoks.

Empire Strikes back was pretty "dark" compared to the first film and really set the tone. AT-ATs, Hoth, Carbonite Han, Luke and Darth Vader revelation. And then we get Ewoks, beating the Stormtroopers and AT-STs with trees and sticks and stones. And they sing. And revere a floating C3PO.

The other scenes, however, were pretty good, fitting the mood and general sense of an epic much, much better.

Cheers, LT.

RotJ is still better than the Prequels.

And people are saying Ewoks were cute and cuddly, yet they forget they were *cannibals*! They were going to serve some roasted Han with a side of Luke and Chewie for the kids!
