TURTLEDOME!: Battle Bone (DM: KenHood, Judge: Lord S.)

Drivan thanks Marco for his help researching, and then returns to finish the rest of his research...

Drivan sets down the autobiography of Ronald the Redoubtable, his skull itching from reading about how great Ronald was at everything he did. Flipping through the book he looks for a date to see if Ronald the Redoubtable might be alive...

He then heads back into the shelves and continues to research...

Emral (the night before) knocks on Hadarai's door.

Hadarai, it's Emral. Open the door, or come down to the common room, will you?

[sblock=scoff scoff scoff] Who knows but that I'm secretly recruiting for some PCs with radiant energy powers?

Actually, you think we could play out this prank in the *real* Hanged Man tavern? Y'know, get some newbs in on the action? Emral needs fame now that he's a sorcerer.[/sblock]

[sblock=enchantment] Actually, a level or so item, easily in a packet we might get, is the Flaming sword. Free action to say fire damage rather than weapon damage, right? It's legal for a sorcerer to use a fire dagger as an implement, so I'm wondering if we can't get a staff or dagger for Drivan or me with out 1000gp.
Radient Staff +1: free action (all damage is radient rather than weapon or arcane). Daily: add +1d6 or so radiant damage to all attacks.

I vote Drivan gets it, or I do, as we use bursts and blasts. More squares affected, more skeleton minions slain. Keep the bad guys off Drivan as long as possible (9 squares with scorching burst is huge for this fight), and we might stand a chance against an army of skeletons.

Could we get such an item made in a day? Is there one we can research that could be borrowed from a temple? I smell quest here...[/sblock]

For All Party Members

HINT
I'm trying to create opportunity for everyone to acquire experience in their separate events. If you don't post, you're going to miss out.

Yes. Even the stuff with Uncle Mikey will lead to a mini-quest.

[sblock=Weldon]Did you know that rangers can use full-size weapons in the off-hand? That means Finnian could use the Sword of Five Elements and his longsword at the same time.[/sblock]

From what I can tell, a radiant weapon or implement is far beyond your level and price range. I don't have all the Dragon magazines, so I could be wrong.

Probably not. Also, fire damage isn't radiant damage. Radiant weapons/implements are high level and cost a lot.

See previous posts about enchanting items.

Is there one we can research that could be borrowed from a temple?
Maybe, but you'll have to wait for Drivan to discuss his results before you can know that you need a radiant weapon.

But then you would be cheating because your character is using knowledge that he can't possess, yet. Heh! :]

Actually, you think we could play out this prank in the *real* Hanged Man tavern?
Nope. The Tavern is a separate entity from our thread.[/sblock]

Flipping through the book he looks for a date to see if Ronald the Redoubtable might be alive...
The book was published about 30 years ago, so it's conceivable.

Boneswarm
A Boneswarm can occur when several minor, skeletal undead die within close proximity to one another, within a relatively short time period. The necromantic energy and psychic resonance released by their near-simultaneous deaths causes the fragmentary skeletons to combine and animate into a whirlwind of bones, consuming everything in its immediate area.

The Valley of Bone
Legionairres can voluntarily replicate by pulling themselves apart, creating up to nine duplicates in a matter of seconds. Within short order, they grow into an army of thousands.

Command units include bone-tenants and bone-turions. Specialists include bone-zerkers, bone-sassins, and bone-locks. All command and specialist units have a higher degree of intelligence and durability than standard legionairres.

TURTLEDOME! Contracts
This seems to be a dead end. Most of it is paranoid rantings. About the only factual, corroborated information you can discover is that failure to comply with a contract results in painful, lingering death with no hope of resurrection.

Journal of an Adventurer
You uncover a gem of information: a treatise by a psion attempting to study the effects and nature of the Approvalometer. The device draws in emotions directed at a particular 'gladiator' team and alters the nature of reality. The writer stresses the supreme importance of harmonious relationships within a team, as well as the necessity of currying as much positive regard as possible from anyone attending or viewing the match. For instance, she notes the constant charity work of Migtroth the Magnificent as providing the warrior with 'tons of psychic currency' that influences his success in battle. She also notes another incident where a party of adventurers experienced major problems when a single member lacked social skills and inadvertently created hostility from several influential individuals, causing the opposing team to acquire a few 'psychic tokens' of antagonistic energies, permitting them to decimate the party.

Time: You have spent an additional 7 hours in research, for a total of 12 hours work. Make an Endurance check if you choose to continue.

---

A rather lovely half-elven girl approaches you as you take a short break and rub your eyes. "Hi," she says, smiling, "I couldn't help noticing the subjects you're studying. A lot of content related to TURTLEDOME!, hmm?"

"Did you know there's a whole section of the library devoted to strategies and tactical information related to each and every warrior-group at the dome?"

Hadarai? Come on, don't stay in there. We're going into battle in a couple of days and we need to regroup. I know you had a bad time today, and I don't know what your past has been like; so if it's been more like today's fiascos... well, let's just say this is kinda what my life's been like all along. Did I mention I was born a human? I had hair! Beautiful, long flowing hair. Life sucks, and then you get killed horribly in the arena. Or, if you're me, put out like a cigar, I dunno.
Listen, we should re-group downstairs with some drinks. Whether or not you go back with Marco, that's cool with me. I just want to get some prep work done before we go in. I don't know about you, but I need some equipment worth a damn before going into the arena or I'm going to get killed. I could use your help.
Guh. Ok, you think about it. Take whatever time you need, I'm here all night if you need me.

Emral then turns and stomps down the steps, muttering to himself about his horrific luck, and orders a drink at the bar. Something ...you know, I have no idea what Genasi like to drink. Have any cider?

[sblock=Library]Drivan continues to take extensive notes, stopping occasionally to grab a drink. He feels surprisingly fresh after he finishes his last studying session.

Turning to the attractive half-elf Drivan smiles charmingly, "I wish someone had told me about that when I first walked in." He smiles again, "Do you work here miss? Perhaps you could help me? My friends and I are going into the in the next few days."[/sblock]

The half-elf licks her lips and raises an eyebrow. She leans closer to Drivan and smiles, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "No, no. My party and I are planning on fighting the Badgermen. Our wizard found out about the TURTLEDOME! stacks from a friend of his who works here. The library only permits people who provide suitable 'donations'..." She makes air-quotes with her fingers. "...to use it. One of their alternative revenue streams."

She chuckles. Brushing a hand down Drivan's fore-arm, she continues, "It's towards the back of the library, a couple of floors down. I'd be happy to take you there and introduce you the person in charge."

Please, let me know if you feel at all cheated in the results of your Diplomacy check. ;)[/sblock]

[sblock=Library]Don't feel cheated by that at all!

Just a side note, I didn't happen to run across any information on the Badgermen during my research that could help her out did I?

Smiling, surprised at his apparent charm, Drivan agrees, "Sounds like a good idea!" He stands up, ready to follow the half-elf, "Oh, and by the way, my name is Drivan... Who do I have the pleasure of meeting?"[/sblock]

[sblock=Innkeeper?] Is there one for the Hanged Man? I'm ready for whatever line of whatever that I'm supposed to follow, either right then or the next day. Or make my own mischief (which I did, in a timely fashion I might add). I don't know if Anatotatos is ok to post now, so I don't know what to do with Emral in the meantime. Know what I mean? [/sblock]

Emral looks about as he waits for the Innkeeper or serving wench to get his drink. Are there any other people around the bar now?
