I think it will be a new setting, maybe on of the two finalist of the setting search...

I'm excluding dragonlance or any other vanilla fantasy setting, because this genre is already covered with the Point of Light implied setting and with the Forgotten Realms.
Planescape will have already three or four books (planar manual, planes above, planes below etc...) so I don't think they will make a planar or spelljamer setting : already covered.
It could have been ravenloft, but it's already developed in Dragons and will be probably covered with the shadowfell sourcebook.

kenmarable's idea seems great, but I can't just say "like he said", so I will try to imagine something else...;)

So, what could we have ? Light fantasy à la Jack Vance's Lyonnesse ? No.
But... What about an horror setting ? There is a lot of stuff about the Far Realms and its creeping invasion of reality in 4e. Mix that with the D&D super-heroic tradition, and you may have a setting where the PC belongs to various secret orders dedicated to defend/free the world from the abomination. It could be somewhat "WoDish", with the PC choosing factions (the various secret orders) that can bring them mecanical advantages and involve them in complex intrigues.

I also would bet on new setting. I imagine the creative teams at WotC are champing at the bit to see what they can whip up, setting-wise.

It would also be consistent with the pattern so far. First we got a 1E setting, then a 3E setting, and now a 2E setting. That means the next one pretty much has to be either 4E or OD&D, and...

...hmm...

...heh. Okay, I'm going to hedge my bets a little. I predict that the 2011 setting will be either a 4E original, or Blackmoor.

I dunno, this comment:

Seems that they may continue to push less conventional settings. I bolded, "settings" to show they are not just referring to Dark Sun.

I think we will probably get something new, perhaps combining aspects of some settings but all around new. I don't think it will be PoL-fleshed out. I really think that is something they want to keep as its own separate core thing.

Ravenloft and Planescape are the other ones that come to mind as "unconventional"

What do I want?: Greyhawk or Mystara.

What will we get?: Who knows!

If WotC comes up with something new, it better be fantastic and very different.

Personally, I think they should buy the rights to Dragonstar from FFG and make that the next setting (or the primary 4e Modern setting).

Haven't you been paying attention to all these other threads? 2011's setting is going to be Bright Sun obviously.

...

...

My money's still on Gamma World.

Hopefully, something I'd consider buying.

Eberron and Dark Sun are two of my least favorite settings. To complete the trifecta, next year should be Ravenloft's turn.

Actually, if it's Bright Moon then it will be She-Ra!
...Bright Moon being the kingdom that She-Ra and the rebels allied with...

Ok, so Dark Sun won (woo!)

I just want to post the first 2011 thread for what it's going to be.

I vote something themed around Flumphs!

I have a feeling that they will stick with the favorites and print those before actually doing anything new. My take is that we'll see Dragonlance, Ravenloft, Planescape ,and Greyhawk in 2011,12, 13, and 14 (not necessarily in that order). If they do Birthright and Mystara, we'll see those after 2013 and then maybe a new setting. This is pure speculation on my part though.
