Enemy Among Us (DM: Stringbean2142, Judge: TwoHeadsBarking)

Catein strides back into the middle of the group, focusing its attention on the hound next to Atlas. "Back to whatever foul place spawned you!" Its right hand extends toward the dog and a brilliant beam of light shoots towards it.

[sblock=ooc]
lots of dice-rolling for you today. :)
Move: Walk to M11
Standard: Avenging Light on Hound 24: +4 vs Fort(14); 1d10+4 damage.

If for some reason a seeker gets between me and Veruzak's zone and is within two squares of the zone and then hits me, I will Armor of Wrath it into the zone. :)

[sblock=Bloodied Melee Guys]
While we're talking tactics, if you're in a slugfest with something and are bloodied and are thinking about healing on your turn, it may be worth waiting for me to shoot what you're fighting before you take your turn. Avenging Light does +3 damage to targets adjacent to my bloodied allies! :)

[sblock=Hey, IC's up]Let's see how it goes:

Atlas misses and heals surge +2. Rolls.

Catein hits for 8 damage. Rolls.

I've updated my previous posts to reflect the "mercy" and mercy of Veruzak and Bell, respectively.[/sblock]

Seeing the foes in front of falls down to magic assault, Kendrick nods happily. That's more like it!

Kendrick then steps lightly away from the husk and joins Atlas in his struggle against the hound but he is a little too eager to finish it and misses the throat by an inch. Damn it.

[sblock=Actions]
Heal 10 hp, -1 surge
Free: Majestic word; Slide to K12
Move: to N9, no OA
Standard: Shield of Blade against Hound 24
1d20+7=15, 1d8+4+1d6=15 ugh, miss by one. I knew I should have risked the OA to circle the hound. *sigh*

[sblock=Status]
19/31 7/8 surge

[sblock=OOC]
1. I was lead to believe that vulnerability is not affected by reductions (i.e. it is always received in full. Essentialy, vulnerability 5 + insubstantial = vulnerability 2.5.

2. I slipped, I usualy mark everything with numbers. My bad.
3. Do incapacitated opponents count as alive for closest enemy for cursing purposes? The post assumes not.
[/sblock]

Martelai is relieved when husk nearest to him slumps on the ground. He has no intention of letting down his own assault on the seeker(s) or let their human husks live. However, seeing Bell and Veruzak in agreement about incapacitation (even if for different reasons), he goes with it as well. He turns the gaze of Nihal the Hungry toward the hound Atlas is fighting, retreats little bit back from seekers attack and blasts the husk battling Kendrick with numbing cold in hope to relieve besieged rogue.

[sblock=Actions]
Minor: Curse the hound 24
Move: to O13, through N11 and O12 to avoid AOO from husk, concealment
Standard: eldritch blast of numbing cold (fancy way of saying non-lethal ;)) against husk 39
Eldritch blast; Curse (1d20+4=17, 1d10+4=5, 1d6=2)

OOC: low damage, but curse help and it's a minion anyhow...Fate of the void +1 next round

Cursed: seeker 31, hound 24, horse, husk 39

[sblock=ooc]Mal, K12 is in the Grasping Shadows zone. I'm guessing you didn't intend on entering it, since you can't move as you wanted to if you're slowed. It appears that there are two ways to get to N9. You can slide to L12 or M12, draw an OA from the husk as you move to N9 and then Quarry and Shield of Blades. Or you can slide to L12 or M12, shift to somewhere in the 11s, and charge to N9, which gets you there with no OA but also no Quarry. Let's say you did the latter. Hey, look at that! Your attack hits for 12 damage, thanks to the charge bonus. If you think I'm being too nice, you are free to roll the OA.

1. I was lead to believe that vulnerability is not affected by reductions (i.e. it is always received in full. Essentialy, vulnerability 5 + insubstantial = vulnerability 2.5.

Your words and your math seem to be at odds. My understanding is vulnerability first, then insubstantial. If someone has evidence to the contrary, please let me know.

*Sighs* That reminds me that I need to beg for a judge again.[/sblock]

The remaining hound snaps at Kendrick's boot, but a swift kick discourages it.

One of the floating creatures drifts into the shadowy field, and small parts of it seem to flake off as it does so. Once again the beings lash out with flickering tendrils. The one floating near the house finally manages to graze Veruzak across the temple. The one near the rocks reaches out and caresses Bell with a tendril, a gesture as disturbing as it is excruciating.

[sblock=Bell]As your mind is ravaged by the seeker's, several images flash into your mind. A coastline, the town, a series of caves. You also realize that these "seekers" are not independent entities, but the psychic projections of something else. In addition, you get the unmistakable idea that this link is bi-directional, and that flashes of your past are being presented to, something...[/sblock]

[sblock=Status]Initiative:
Martelai (16/28, Concealed)
Hound 24 (-29, bloodied, slowed, Ill Luck (save ends))
Seeker 26 (-2)
Seeker 31 (-6, Cursed)
Seeker 72 (slowed (save ends))
Seeker 74 (-8)
Veruzak (15/20, prone)
Kendrick (19/31)
Bell (4/25, bloodied)
Atlas (19/26)
Catein (14/27)

The Hound misses Kendrick.

*Counts the squares* "...9, 10, ugh, 11."

Seeker 26 moves forward one lousy square into the Grasping Shadows zone, suffering the appropriate effects, and attacks Veruzak, missing. Seeker 31 does the same, hitting for a phenomenal 5 psychic damage. Seeker 72 misses Atlas. Seeker 74 crits Bell for 11 psychic damage. Rolls.

Saves are failed.[/sblock]

I hate these things... Veruzak comes to a knee once again, a few arcane words, and he lobs a ball of flame that grows until it engulfs the seekers that wandered too close to one another. Veruzak's foot slipped out from under him, and he was on his rear, nearly falling from the roof.

[sblock=OOC]

Move stand

Standard Scorching Burst on H10, seeker 74 14 vs reflex, seeker 26 16 vs reflex, for 8 fire damage, 4 after insubstantial.

Minor drop prone

(Seeker 74 and 26 are both slowed TEo Their NT, from the Grasping Shadows.)

Seeing that the hound is nearly dealt with, Catein focuses its attention on one of the seekers. A beam of glowing light emanates from its hand, striking the creature dead center and destroying it.

[sblock=actions]
Standard: Avenging Light on Seeker 74
...1d20+4 (vs Fort 12) = 24 CRIT! for 14 damage, halved to 7 should still be enough to kill it on top of Veruzak's shot.
nothin else...
[/sblock]

Catein! Subdue them! These are worthwhile specimen, they should be studied. Veruzak shouts as the Seeker is immolated.

[sblock=OOC]

Do what you like, kill/subdue, I'm not actually worried about it.
