GURPS 4th Edition Online Game Thread

Eryiedes

First Post
Two previous attempts to get a Star Wars Saga Edition thread going so I will try this way instead.

Experienced GM looking for players....(Maximum of 4)
Maptools to be utilized for rolling, chat and mapping considerations.

Players choice of gaming environments

-Bubblegum Crisis
-Autoduel
-Unreal Tournament or Awakening
-Battlefield 2142
-Mortal Kombat
-Infinites
-Conspiracy
-Horror
-Illuminati
-Dungeon Fantasy
-Banestorm
-Gaia Aeternia
-Space
-Aliens vs Predator

I have extensive material prepared from a long established local gaming group.....the exact nature of story is secondary to finding a group of mature players.
Would enjoy once a week or bi-weekly session of 4 hours with an intermission at halfway.
Character point cap limit to be set by players.
No templates or lens to be restricted.
Bottom line to be about fun.
All particulars to be decided by players to accomodate players.
High End Cinematia or Hardcore Realism at the players discretion.
Those without gaming experience in GURPS still welcome....GURPS Lite is still free last I looked!
Questions to be answered in thread.

Hi - I'm interested. Experienced in GURPS and MapTools. My schedule fits best with playing every other week but I might could make a weekly game work on the right day/time. I'd prefer fantasy/Banestorm but am open. Thanks.

An online GURPS game is a cool idea. I'd be interested, but it would depend largely on the game and also when this would take place.

My vote is for Autoduel, mostly because I love that setting and can't get my players to try it.

Failing that, my next votes, in order, would be Horror, Space, and Fantasy.

That's ONE for Fantasy.
Consider it noted, sir.
I am glad there was a prompt responce.....perhaps even suprised....pleasantly I might add.
I will be lurking in thread so any questions should be answered within 30 minutes or so till around 5pm eastern.
Thank you for your interest.
Before I forget.....note to any players who wish to join the game.
FRIDAY IS OUT!
(I dm a D&D4e game every friday and that IS set in stone!)

The when I will leave up to the players.
The game is supposed to make things easier for the players so it should be the players who will decide upon what days and time we play at.
We should have a much better idea of the scheduling once the "remaining" players have joined.
Autoduel was a favorite of mine too.
Car Wars was my first SJG experience and it sorta stuck with me ever since.
So one for Fantasy and one for Autoduel.
It will be up to the 2 remaining players to decide the format with their preferences but note that nothing is set in stone and players with concerns over timing and subject should voice them as soon as they feel inclined to do so to avoid future confusion.
(That was meant more for people ABOUT to join than you two fellas!)
For any curious about Fantasy or D&D related GURPS gaming should ABSOLUTELY take a gander at GURPS DUNGEON FANTASY.
It is essentially a GURPS take on the High Action of classic D&D.
Classes seem more like the WotC counterparts.
Appologies....I should have included that in the last post but I forgot.
Either way, thank you for your interest.
With only two more spots to fill it may not be long before we are up and running.
Any questions may be posted here for now.
I will be lurking so all responces will be on the prompt side.

One other question I should have asked.
What are either of your gaming preferences with respect to;

High End Reality or High End Cinematic

I personally enjoy both but GURPS Gun Fu is one of the best gaming supplements they have released in a while.
With that said....many traits of wuxia will be incorperated into the game regardless of setting but I was just curious.....(it works just as well for crossbows as it does gov't issue colts)
ALSO
Because this is GURPS and not D&D, it is also very easy to run a game with LESS than the required 4 players.
(But for that I recommend High End Cinematic....most action movies feature a SINGLE hero anyhow so it isn't much of a stretch.)
The only other detail that will need to be ironed out is "How many character points do we get?"
Well, that will be entirely up to YOU my friends.
I will either increase or decrease enemy concentration accordingly.
It's all about fun at the end of the day.

Peace & Light

Side Note:

Tops on my list of senarios to run....

If we go in the direction of Fantasy/Banestorm or Dungeon Fantasy.....I am thinking of running the TSR I series of modules called the Desert of Desolation but GURPS style.....players choice of realism levels...though with classic D&D I recommend Cinematic over Realistic play style.
I have all the maps needed.

If we go in the direction of Autoduel then I will be running some variants of adventures originating from the GURPS Autoduel Atlas books.....the only book I never found was the one on the Desert Autonomous Region but I figure Area 51/S4 has its OWN problems right now.
The Autoduel world that has devloped over 27+ years of gaming became a Cyberpunk amalgam that incorperated elements of:

-Mortal Kombat
-Unreal Tournament
-Battlefield 2142
-Total Recall
-Bubblegum Crisis
-Bubblegum Crash
-A.D. Police Files
-Venus Wars
-Outland
-Unreal Awakening
-Seaquest DSV
-Aliens
-Predator
-Aliens vs Predator (Bet ya never saw THAT one coming)
-Robocop
-Appleseed
-Black Magic M-66
-Ghost in the Shell
-The Matrix (The cyberspace elements of it at least, not "The Machines")
-The Cobra Organization from G.I.Joe (Except they are called A.S.P. and if you EVER played Autoduel then you would know EXACTLY what I am talking about.....otherwise known as; "Cobra on a budget")
-Avatar
-Killzone
-Stargate

(Now THAT'S a mouthful and I am sure you recognize a few of those names from above...that's where they came from.....a single ever-evolving campaign/super meta-plotline

The game setting spans from 2018AD to approx 2268AD which represents the "Ending of the World" and a beginning of an untested game setting called; "The Edge of Night" where mankind is "essentially" extinct.
Autoduel sees popularity between 2022 through 2077 when the Unreal Tournament takes over as top death sport of all time and virtually ANYONE with enough money can jack into The Matrix and instead of watching their favorite driver or tournament hero win....they BECOME the tournament hero/champion driver.
Mind you, in our setting, it was not uncommon to find autoduelers in similar fields for another generation or so.
In the post 2100 world, autoduelers are looked at nostalgically....almost the same way we now look at old b&w photos of people on the very first bikes....."Oh, looook.....a 50 calibre machine gun on a vintage chevy.....how cuuuuute....its amazing more of 'em didn't just spontaneously explode, what with all that ammo right next to the gas tank an all....."
(Thanks to the Australian Autoduel Atlas we had our petrol burners back)
The "Mad Max" type world we all loved only lasted about 15-20 years before Boomers began to make automotive combat obsolete....less a way of life and more of a means of entertainment and control.....It lasted longer in some of the more lawless parts of North America and Australia but essentially has a 75 year window of play.

This does NOT mean I prefer Autoduel......I was just bored and I haven't talked to anyone on the topic since our local group moved away.....I would be just as psyched to run ANY game.

(Except Steampunk....I HATE that one and I avoid playing in similar game settings like I avoid eating human flesh!)

Peace & Light (3d6 is all I need)

I'm used to building 100-point characters, but I'll roll with whatever we have.

Cinematic & Autoduel.....both choices noted....VERY potent combination!

If all players agree to a 100 point limit then so be it....same will hold true for a 500 point limit.

(I have found in cinematic games that feature characters with starting values in excess of 250 are very much commonplace....if not somewhat "underpowered" en lieu of new edition cinematic rules)

For example if only 2 players are involved, the average point level per main protagonist will be increased accordingly......ie; instead of (4) 150 point characters....there will be (2) 300 point characters....and so on and so forth.

Peace & Light (and GURPS Action Heros supplement will help out a LOT in that respect!)

I concur with cinematic as a choice. Generally speaking I prefer genres where there is a "something special" that comes from a source other than machines (magic, supers, psi, etc.)

Some combo of genres might be possible with imagination. For example, ShadowRun has the tech/magic combo with the Riggers having the very cool neural interface with their vehicles and drones. Just a thought.
