[D&D 4e] IG's "Those Left Behind, Chapter 4(e)"

Uulark Simental, Longtooth Shifter Cleric of Sehanine L11

"Really?" Talashia grunts as she levers a chunk of stone over and sends it tumbling down the pile. "How's that working out for you?"
Uulark continues to help Talashia, and says, "Don't...ugghhh, argghh, ask!" as he heaves a large block off the pile.

Pinned quite well beneath stones that held his limbs at odd, uncomfortable angles Buurt is found. However, at first, he doesn't seem to be moving, to be reacting, yet before fear sets too deeply in his chest is noticed to be rising and failing in a steady, regular fashion.

With the stones moving from him, Buurt blinks awake and looks to see who's pulling stones from him, before joining in on extracting himself from premature burial.

The normally groomed half-orc smirks slightly, yet it softens into a polite, sincere smile as he first sees Talashia, and then the others.

"Thanks," says Buurt, first to Talashia, and then to Shai and the others. After a quick glance, the half-orc scout asks, "Are we still missing Rogash?"

Shaimon Hu'u, druidic human ranger

"Thanks," says Buurt, first to Talashia, and then to Shai and the others. After a quick glance, the half-orc scout asks, "Are we still missing Rogash?"

"So far, yeah," Shai confirms. "I think Dys may have a scent, but with all the rock dust, it's hard for him to track..."

Rogash Ungart

With a clatter of rubble, a waraxe rises from a particularly tall pile of rock. A dusty bruised dwarf begins to emerge. "Gods Above," he shouts and then continues in an unnecessarily loud voice. "Are we all alive?" He casts aside whats left of his shield. "Damn fine shield nothing but junk now, but it did save my life when the sky fell." He snorts and plume of dust exits his nostrils. He shakes dust from his ears as well and then speaks in a normal volume. "Did you magicers fry all the trolls before the end there? Otherwise they'll be sprouting like mushrooms after a spring rain in a minute. Can't kill em with just rocks."

Uulark Simental, Longtooth Shifter Cleric of Sehanine L11

Uulark coughs mockingly at Rogash's antics. "Careful Rogash, you're getting the whole dungeon dirty."

Uulark quips at Rogash's fit, and the ground begins to open on cue. The gorge opens in the center of the chamber, nearly from one end to the other, and retches forth a swarm of moth-like insects. Following the plague of insects, a black, viscous goo bubbles from the opening and seems to seep up from the ground itself.

Map Note: The entire map is difficult terrain. The only exit is a barred door at G0.

The dark yellow squares are the nuclei of the swarms. The more translucent yellow squares are their aura. Remember this is my first foray into paragon levels. Be gentle.

Shaimon Hu'u, druidic human ranger

Shai gapes as the swarm and the black goo both rise.

"Did the chaos critters just get so evil they turned black?" he says, blanching. He leans back against a nearby rock, and his hand connects with something. He picks it up, a totem carved from obsidian bone, strung with raven feathers and dark blue beads.

"Did them hags have you, brother night?" he whispers, eyes shining. Then he shakes out of his reverie and looks back at the coming onslaught.

[sblock=OOC]It may be your first paragon levels, but it's my first 4e altogether, so I'll join in the 'go easy on me's. ;)

Fluff text to cover Shai's totem, mostly. Since I didn't think to try to read up on swarms or oozes, let's try a few knowledge-y checks to see if Shai knows more. He's trained in both Dungeneering and Nature, which I think should cover 'em both:

Know checks for pudding (Dungeoneering) and swarm (nature). (1d20+14=25, 1d20+14=22)

[sblock=OOC]It'll be Arcana and Nature for the moths and ooze, respectively.[/sblock]

[sblock=Shai]The ooze is a black pudding. Disgusting as it may be, it is natural to this world and no relation to the aberrant chaos beasts. Despite its oozy exterior, there is no mistake that it is a living organism.

As for the moths, Shai hasn't a clue.[/sblock]

Rogash

OOC: Arcana and Nature checks (1d20+5=13, 1d20+6=15)

Reacting quickly to the new threat, Rogash brings up his crossbow and fires (1d20+14=25) into the swarm and into the black mass (1d20+14=23). The bolts rip (1d8+8+3d8+3=32) into the swarm and black mass.
