[D&D 4e] IG's "Those Left Behind, Chapter 4(e)"

Let's take this pony out for a ride

Caerwyn's head finally stops spinning as he groggily looks around, the rocks littering the floor around him, a giant ooze looking to envelop his allies, a group of moths assaulting them, a sight so ludicrous he almost laughed despite the situation. The paladin knew full well what he needed to do, his allies needed his sword, his code demanded that he protect his sister and friends and his own anger required his foes to pay.

The warrior stands up, his massive blade drawn and carried in front of him with practiced skill. His eyes narrow as he carefully considers which foe to engage. The largest seemed as good as any of the others and Caerwyn unleashed his anger, unrestrained it flowed through his veins, hungrily moving throughout his body, filling the warrior with strength, with courage, and helped block out any lingering pain from the massive blows he's received.

With a cry of almost primal rage, Caerwyn's blade descends towards the pudding, cleaving a huge swath that lingers long after his weapon is gone. The blood is pumping and Caerwyn cannot contain his fury, swinging again at the ooze, his care and skill thrown away as he allows the anger to take over. He then sees the foes all around him and begins hacking, slashing, and stabbing at anything within reach, although the tiny part of his mind that still is the more restrained, careful warrior prevents him from turning his blade on his allies. He is breathing heavy from exertion after his assault, but the fire burns in his eyes, and it is obvious that Caerwyn is far from satiated.

[sblock=OOC]
Move: Stand
Minor: Draw blade (if considered drawn already, Divine Challenge BP1) - it takes a -2 to hit if it attacks anyone else and takes 11 radiant damage to it.
Standard: Stoneroot Rage - attack Black Pudding 1 with it - vs ac; dmg (1d20+17=37, 3d12+10=28) crit! So damage is 45* + 10 ongoing (from Jagged weapon) + this triggers Rampage + resist 5 until end of encounter (rage)
*high crit (1d12=3)
Rampage attack: Attack BP1 - vs ac; dmg (1d20+17=26, 1d12+10=12) hits AC 26 for 14 (forgot that there's an extra 2 damage from Rampaging Slayer's Gloves for this attack). If that hits activate Daily power of Gloves to do an extra Extra damage (2d12=20) 20 damage !
AP: Strength from Valour - Close Burst 1 - Enemies only - vs fort (BP1; Moth Swarm 1; 3); damage (1d20+22=28, 1d20+22=26, 1d20+22=23, 1d12+8=13) wowzers... a 6,4, and nat 1...well it may hits BP1 or Moth Swarm for 13 damage. Extra +3 to hit was from Action Surge feat and +2 from Gray Guard feature (lasts until start of next turn). It's a burst so I hope it hits the swarm... Also, gain 5 temp. hp for each enemy hit

Uulark Simental, Longtooth Shifter Cleric of Sehanine L11

Uulark calls upon the power of Sehanine and a gout of flame surges from his holy symbol at the Pudding he is flanking with Shai.

[sblock=Actions]Using Divine Fortune (free action) to gain +1 on his next attack, Uulark then uses Sacred Flame (wis. vs. ref.) against the same foe, but the flame misses, unfortunately. Sacred Flame (1d20+5=14, 1d6+5=11)

(If by some freak chance a 14 hits against the pudding's Reflex defense, then Shai gains 8 temp. hp, or can make a saving throw, at his option.)

As renau1g says in post 33, what I have here is actually 22 attack 11 dam. Thanks, Ryan!

Your attack bonus is off there.

You should have 5 (1/2 level) + 5 (Wis) + +2 magic holy symbol = +12 vs ref. should be 21 to hit

Also with Divine Guidance that bumps it up to 22 vs ref

The swarm of moths advance, and you are all overcome by a wave of fear as a brief glimpse of the future burns itself into your brains. This could get very, very ugly...

[sblock=OOC]4 crits in one round... my evil blue D20 strikes again!

On a side note, see the OOC for some discussion here...[/sblock]

(OOC - Okay, rather than plan out the whole round, I'll do this one step at a time, for sanity's sake. :))

As the moths close in and begin to oscillate with psychic potence, Talashia grabs at the essence of chaos that beats at the heart of the elemental sea. A wild patina of colors surges over her and around her and she vanishes! At the far end of the room the sorceress appears in an explosion of wild, unnatural lights that gush out over the black pudding that threatens Buurt and Caerwyn!

(Slaad's Gambit - Interrupt! 27 to hit vs Will, doing 27 psychic damage to black pudding 1.)
Roll Lookup
Effect - Before the attack teleport speed - moving to A9.

(ooc - Since this should negate her stunning, let me know if she gets any further actions this turn.)

The interrupt will negate your stunning. However, the target should be the moth swarm (2), since that is the triggering enemy.

That was the last attack of the round, and you're first next round, so go ahead. I'm glad we're finally getting this thing sorted out!

(OOC - Actually, Slaad's Gambit is a bit weird. You teleport -before- the attack, so the attack doesn't hit the enemy that triggers the interrupt. It attacks a target on the far end of the teleport.)

No sooner has Talashia appeared near Buurt and the others, than her body erupts with crackling, sparking and spitting lightning. Seeming to have momentarily become some primordial creature of pure electricity, she streaks over the battlefield, swerving to plunge through each of the puddings, large and small, and the moth swarm itself. In the wake of her passage are seared footprints and the burning bodies of moths and puddings alike!

Even as she does, the wind from her cyclone surges, and drags the other large pudding back away from the party!

(Spark Form! She Shifts her speed +2 (9sq) and can shift through enemy spaces. Any enemy she moves through in this way takes damage. High-steppin' this way she moves from A9 through the big puddin', the swarm, and all three of the little guys, to wind up at A11. Rolls below:)
Big Puddin' - 27 vs Ref for 19
Moth - 25 vs Ref for 23
Lil puddin 3 - 18 vs Ref for 21
Lil puddin 2 - 18 vs Ref for 26
Lil puddin 1 - 32 vs Ref for 19
Roll Lookup

(Note - if any little puddin's are alive after this, I will AP for another standard action. Also, using the Howling Hurricaine's sustain to drag Black Pudding 2 away from us, 2sq. This is a minor action.)

[sblock=Slaad's Gambit]I don't want to spend a lot of time nitpicking about this, but... My insider subscription ran our some months ago, so I wouldn't know if there's been any errata... but the version I have specifically says that the target of the attack is "the triggering enemy."

Also, reflex 18 misses the puddings, so there are two little ones left after the attack[/sblock]

[sblock=Slaad's Gambit]
Here's the latest and greatest straight from the Compendium (from that sucka who still has his subscription). It appears IG is correct.

Slaad's Gambit

You tap into chaos just as a foe is about to hit you. A greenish hue flickers across your skin as you teleport away, then make your own attack.

Daily Arcane, Implement, Psychic, Teleportation
Immediate Interrupt Ranged 5

Trigger: An enemy within 5 squares of you hits you

Target: The triggering enemy

Effect: Before the attack, you teleport your speed.

Attack: Charisma vs. Will

Hit: 2d10 + Charisma modifier psychic damage.

Miss: Half damage.
