My name is Dice4Hire and ...

...Really hate people who really love FR.

...Enjoyed every edition of D&D to present but would not go back to any but 3.5

...rather enjoy having my characters get killed.

...really do not mind killing PCs even if it ends the campaign.

...have never understood the love of real-time online play.

...would rather game face to face above all other methods

...but don't get enough gaming that way so I do Yahoogroups.

...can be an annoying player to play with

...rather like being a troll and would be pleased to not get another xp. EVER.

...am rather proud of being in the top 75 of xp totals in Enworld.

Sometimes, when I barely know someone (and the situation presents itself), I'll say things like, "Dexterity is my dump stat," to see if they get it. If they stare blankly, I'll say "That's a geek joke. If you don't get it, you're not a geek. That's nothing to be ashamed of, though."

My name is Bill and I'm here to confess...

  • my ID here at ENWorld is based on my real name
  • I met my (then future) wife gaming
  • I think there are some elements of Ralph Bakshi's animated Lord of the Rings better than Peter Jackson's films
  • I don't read much sci-fi or fantasy literature
  • I dislike most of the Star Wars expanded universe books
  • I think 2nd edition AD&D is underrated by most people and think they are judging it mostly on creeping supplements rather than the core game's merits
  • The 3e/PF edition of D&D is my favorite, but there are times I realize that I actually did have more fun playing 1e - I figure that has a lot to do with other things going on in my life rather than the specific game system
  • There are people I will not willingly associate with in person because of behavior on this and other gaming messageboards
  • Every time I come to the conclusion that gamers are a bunch of pathetic malcontents because of messageboard behavior (which is often), I remind myself that they're no worse than anyone else by thinking about behvior on political messageboards and even on talk(post)-back sections of local news websites. Then I become dismayed that humans are all pretty much pathetic losers...

Hi. My name is Piratecat, and...

  • I learned about D&D right after B1 (In Search of the Unknown) came out, but I didn't follow up on my chance to play, and I didn't think of it again for another three or four years.
  • I love kobolds, doppelgangers and wererats. Love 'em. Could build whole campaigns around 'em. On the other hand, I find orcs and hobgoblins to be incredibly boring.
  • Cutesy D&D, full of in-game puns and anachronisms, makes me cringe.
  • I have a bad tendency to powergame. I always hope fun roleplaying will disguise this. It never does.
  • I bought Greyhawk when it first came out and found it boring.
  • My players walked out on me the first time I tried to DM. It was another year or two before I tried again.
  • When I started playing AD&D I spent three sessions rolling a d12 instead of a d20.
  • My first character died when a secret door fell on him, knocking him unconscious, and the rest of the party walked over the secret door to try and find him. Squish.
  • During one high school campaign I lost seven PCs in seven weeks, all to the same player's evil anti-paladin. Except for the one week when I was killed by mind flayers and the anti-paladin looted my body.
  • I usually design encounters, traps, puzzles and mysteries with no idea how the PCs are going to get past them.
  • If I can't have a fun conversation with a person about non-gaming topics, I probably don't want to play in a campaign with them.

Hi,
My name is Chris and I:
1] like pudgy, hairy-footed halflings
2] like gnomes... particularly those with pointy red caps.
3] love Greyhawk & Planescape
4] often buy rpg books that I never use or read
5] am totally superstitious about my dice and threaten them with violence if they roll poorly
6] play 3.5 but really am sick of it, tried 4th edition but didn't like it at all, but can't go back to AD&D or BECMI D&D with all of their subsystems and restrictions... yet, somehow, love D&D (it's complicated).

My name is Monkey (or Quentin if you prefer) and I...

...Insisted on being called "Q" for far too many years.

...Have had DMPCs win the final major battle of a campaign before.

...Have been the conductor of a railroad campaign.

...Have spared PCs from bad die rolls on my part because the story trumped the game.

...Desperately want to play but am a terribly nitpicky player and unable to get out from behind the subconscious DM screen even when I'm not behind the physical DM screen.

...Once gave my players a "blank check" to get whatever magic items they wanted before going up against the BBEG of the campaign.

...Gave in to player whining once and threw a Deck of Many Things in for them to find. Half the party either effectively died or became unplayable.

...Would not have married a non-gamer (thankfully the woman I did marry is a gamer :D).

...And most egregious of all, I have not read or used about half the game books on my game shelf.

My name is Stumblewyk and:

  • I like gnomes.
  • I am frustrated by people I perceive as min/max'ers, even though I have to fight to temptation myself at character creation (and have even given in on occasion).
  • I have been known to build a dice tower or two in my time.
  • I miss AD&D 2e.
  • I love minis and battlemats, but I long for the days of simpler combat rules.
  • I would rather my players have a great time and never lose a character, than challenge the crap out of them and kill them off.
  • I secretly want my players to succeed. But don't tell them that.

Hi. My name is Gene...but you can call me Steel Dragons...and I:

  • was never a fan of/warmed up to Eberron.
  • really REALLY dislikes the "warforged" as a PC race
  • thinks the separation of wizard and sorcerer was completely ridiculous, unnecessary and a detriment to the game as a whole.
  • I never...*snif*...I've never actually gotten to play a game set in the Forgotten Realms. *sob.* But from what I've read/seen Waterdeep seems like a generally cool place.
  • thinks the first 3 Dragonlance books are/should be required reading for all fantasy RPGers.
  • thinks the creation/separation of "eladrin" and elves was, quite possibly, the stupidest thing he's ever seen.
  • hates tiefling sorcerers, dragonborn paladins and warlocks of any race.
  • never read more than "The Crystal Shard" as far as Drizzt books are concerned. *collective gasp* I know. It's shocking. And since we're being honest, I should probably mention here that I never thought he was all that cool of a character. *I duck and cover.*
  • Believes, with all of his heart and soul, that halflings should have hairy feet and NEVER wear shoes!!!
You're right...I do feel so much better.

Fun thread. :D

* really don't get the general lovefest many gamers have with the Forgotten Realms.
* still think the original 6 Dragonlance novels are compelling fiction (not well written fiction, mind you, just compelling).

*Despise wish lists, both at and away from the gaming table.
*Script out the plot for many sessions in advance and lead my players by the nose.

*Have been the conductor of a railroad campaign.
*Have spared PCs from bad die rolls on my part because the story trumped the game.

*I am frustrated by people I perceive as min/max'ers, even though I have to fight to temptation myself at character creation (and have even given in on occasion).
*I secretly want my players to succeed. But don't tell them that.

These. And...

*My first attempt at designing my own adventure used the map from the 1E DMG and featured low-level bandits in one room and Demogorgon in the room adjacent.
*My oldest surviving character was a 1E human fighter named Northstar. Yes, he was named after the character from the New Mutants. I normally deny that inspiration.
*I liked running the "comedy" module Castle Greyhawk.
*I can't stand reading JRRT.
*I don't read much fantasy at all. My most recent foray was re-reading the first 6 Dragonlance books.
*I sometimes get frustrated that my monsters get utterly trounced.
*Until recently my friends never liked when someone else ran because of how bad a player I was when not running the game.
*Earthdawn is actually my favorite RPG, but I continue to play D&D because of the adventure support.
