Hasn't WotC said that, in the event of an item being printed in two sources, go with the newer source? I think I remember reading that somewhere...
The DM Rulebook in the DM Kit is published by WotC. It hasn't been folded into the errata likely because they are waiting on the April 30 update (as the DM Kit came out 10/19/10 and the last update to the PDFs was 10/5/10). I suspect it'll show up in the April 30th update promised as its made it the CB.The rules have not had an official update to them. They just released a different set of rules for Flaming weapons in the DM kit. There was no errata.
I mentioned this in L4W, but curious these judges thoughts on it. Now we're in a situation where say Player A has a couple core books (being say PHB and HotXX) and wants to make a PC. They dutifully check the latest errata documents and find no changes to the Flaming weapon. There's nowhere this "update" is contained outside of that boxed set and the online tools (which are not rules sources).
No one said WotC was consistent.I just find it silly that Flaming has that change but not Lightning or Frost or Gith Silver Sword, but c'est la vie I guess. Ah well, Ashir barely used the two powers affected by this (Winged Horde and Grasping Shadows).
Its in a grey zone—one I see as black, but another judge doesn't. In any case, I believe we have in the past, when an item became changed, to allow a swap of that item for one of equal or lower level (but no excess gold if the switch is lower). I would either wait to submit your level up or submit two version (w/ and w/o the fix) and we'll determine which one is valid when needed. So we don't use it until it is officially errated? And I cannot do my rebuild until then (so I will have to have approved the character twice?
BTW, the old version isn't no longer available through the DDI account.
... to allow a swap of that item for one of equal or lower level ...
The one-time rebuild seems appropriate.
