What is with these crappy Video Games?

I'm fairly certain that Obsidian Entertainment (New Vegas, KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2) is making or planning on making a third Icewind Dale. I do know that Josh Sawyer, one of the lead designers for the first two, is currently working at Obsidian.

In addition, the guys who did Star Trek Online and Champions Online are doing an MMO-esque Neverwinter Nights game with a focus on player-created content.

I'm not quite sure how I feel about Neverwinter, honestly, considering the developer has a less-than-stellar track record. However if Obsidian's Icewind Dale 3 becomes a reality, complete with Josh Sawyer spearheading the project, I could be a very happy man.

While I enjoyed the story line in Neverwinter Nights 2 the controls cracked me up though they got better around the time I ended it. However, when I installed the sequel the controls were awfull again and as a result I never finished the game.
So I hope if they do another they fix tohse issues.

My favorite turn-based games are xcom, master of magic, master of Orion 2, civ 5, heroes of might and magic 2, betrayel of krondor, final fantasy 7 and fallout 2. no one can convince me that the market for these games isn't there nor can they tell me that rts is better. dnd video games that aren't turnbased aren't really dnd to me because the strategy is minimized.

If you missed the Temple of Elemental Evil game (patched version only!), then you missed a real gem. It was basically a gold-box-style D&D game using the 3e rules and with good (at the time) graphics.

That must be one hell of a patch. I gave up on the game before I ever left the village.

I never played the pre-patch version. I understand that it had serious issues, but I never ran into any real problems post-patch.

God, I loved that game. It was everything that the Bioware games should have been. Not that I didn't enjoy BG, IWD, etc. but the sorta-realtime combat and brain-dead AI made them feel less like D&D to me. And then there's NWN, which used the 3e rules in name only...

I think, in general, there's a lack of good rpg video games right now. I was pretty disappointed by Dragon Age 2

See my note above about development time. DA:O was developed over almost a decade. DA 2 was developed very, VERY quickly.

The difference shows. But I bet DA 2 development costs were a bare fraction of DA:O's.

I just installed ToEE, with the patches and latest Circle of 8 front end and mods. Looking forward to playing it.

While DDO is not a great game, it is free, and it does feel like D&D most of the time. I have a friend that says the LotR version is better, so I'll be starting that soon, I think.

I'm also likely to install BG1 and BG2 and the mods that allow you to use the BG2 engine with BG1, plus some new content.

I like the turn based games, they feel like D&D to me.
